Well, I am ashamed to say that my house stinks and I don't know why. Over the last week I have cleaned everything that I can think of and the only possibility left is the carpet. They carpets have not been cleaned since they went down 5 years ago. I bought a carpet cleaner 18months ago but it has been in its box in the garage since then. I have used it for the first time today to clean our bedroom and landing. Tomorrow I am going to start on the lounge - I will do one half tomorrow morning and then move the furniture on Friday morning to finish it off. The problem is that Toby & Barney are going to have to remain locked in their hutch while the carpet is wet.

Now, I have 2 very spoilt little piggies who free-range and become utterly, utterly furious when they get locked up. Even at bedtime, if they aren't ready to go to bed we have raging chattering and run-bar rocking. I received this text from MrS yesterday 'Its lovely to come home, open the kitchen door to find the brown pig backing up the black pig who's headbutting, shoulder charging and biting the bars on the run. He was less than impressed that I went back to get something from the van before I opened the run'.

I think that I am going to have to provide lots and lots of treats over the next couple of days so that they don't hate us too much as not only will they not be able to free-range but they wont even be able to access the run.

Wish me luck!

Aw good luck. Sounds like two pampered piggies! hehe. I'm sure they will be fine :D As you say lots of treats and veggies :D

Oh no! My 4 are free range in their own sectioned off part of the garden, their hutch doors are always open so they can hop in out but on the odd occasion when I shut the door because its absolutely chucking it down or the grass is too muddy or its cold and I need to zip up the hutch protector I get the same reaction!

Their hutches are massive so its not like they are cramped up but I get the chattering and banging as well!

Haha, they will be doing a good strop when you lock them up!
I hope the smell disappears for you.

Oh you horrible piggy mum you :)) They sounds very pampered piggies - lots of veggie bribes required!

With free range pigs - how do you keep on top of their wees and poops? Are they toilet trained? I let mine out in the kitchen sometimes as its a laminate floor, but then spend ages having to sweep and mop up after them!

They only pop the occasional poop out on the carpet - most of them are either in the hutch or under MrS's recliner chair. I have a hand-vac accessible at all times for accidental poops and we have puppy pads under the chair because they spend lots of time sleeping (and therefore peeing and pooping) under there. So we didn't train them - they trained us about where they want to toilet!

Ah I see. They do have us well trained!
To be fair mine tend to go toilet and sleep under the kitchen table so I lay out some fleece liners there. However I did stand in a nice puddle of wee over by the sink yesterday  cheers guys.

Hope the carpet cleaning and subsequent stroppy pigs runs smooth!

I have just cleaned the hutch out in preparation for tomorrows carpet clean. I have taken their run away for now (no point setting it all up just to have to remove it in the morning). Toby is coping well - he is eating Timothy and Rye that is now in the hutch instead of the run. Barney is very, very sad. He is currently sulking behind the sofa! Think I shall have to give him some apple to see if I can make him happy again!

Would it be possible to let them run in the bathroom while the carpets are drying? Could ebb their tantrums.

Oooooo no - they would hate that even more - the bathroom is where bad stuff happens - baffs and things!

They are still free-ranging at the moment but Barney doesn't like the fact that their run has gone. Judging by the bedroom carpet, it will only take a couple of hours to dry so it isn't like it is a huge trauma for them but we all know how little piggles like to sulk when they don't get everything their own way.

This reminds me of a few weeks ago when the kitchen was getting removed. Had to close the pigs c&c for 3 days and they just sat and sulked the whole time! You will be forgiven.....eventually lol x

Gotta love stroppy piggies! They're really milking it! That's so cute!!

I have a similar issue my five are free range in the garden, when I get home from work and visit them; they all line up. And If I don't move quick enough Rambo starts scratching the door and pulling the fleece back! Get squeaked at, chattered at...
Really am not looking forward to winter...

I'm sure all will be forgotten when once the carpet is clean and dried.

I think forgiveness will take a little longer when I wipe them over with a pet wipe tonight for the first time! Am just being such a horrible mummy to them at the moment!

As you know I'm free range too and when we HAVE to lock bramble away we have a few tricks.
Your gonna need some boredom breakers. Hide loads of treats under the hay for foraging, invest in some solid hay cubes (they keep them entertained for hours), hand some treats and bits and bobs from the top bars and get some old toilet roll tubes and fill them full of veg, hay, treats or whatever and squash the ends down to keep them interested. It aint gonna be easy but with a few toys and silly little things it will be a bit smoother.

Good luck. I do not envy you ;)

If you can put any fans down by the carpet that helps them dry much faster. The oscalating ones are best.

Good luck with it all. :)

What time will you start cleaning?
I have just finished one half of lounge, just have to wait for it to dry then can move the furniture to the other end. Boys are behaving themselves really well at the moment - think they must realise that something is going on as the furniture has been moved close to their hutch. I have to go out this afternoon, had planned on finishing carpet tomorrow but may well get it done this evening as it dries faster than I expected. Then we can resume normal service tomorrow.

Is it a smelly carpet cleaner?

Well the cleaning was all going to plan until the mother-in-law was taken into hospital. She is my father-in-law's carer. MrS is currently visiting his mum in hospital and will then be taking his dad home to sort him out for the night (I did volunteer but was told he could handle it). I don't think MrS will be back at home tonight. The problem is that all of the furniture is still piled up at one end of the lounge. Luckily I can just about get into the boys hutch so have been able to poop scoop and give extra hay to them. I have let them out and they are having a great time running between the pieces of furniture. I just have no idea where I am going to sit. I have put my jammies on for comfort but I might have to call it a day and go to bed - it will be comfier than the floor!

Oh no, you're in a slight pickle!

I hope MrS will be back home soon to move the furniture.
