I've mentioned this in my other thread (Baytril and pineapple), but thought I'd start a new thread in case someone hasn't seen it.

What does an abscess look like? I had my boar castrated last Tuesday and he was doing really well until Friday, when the wound started to bleed a little and looked sore. I took to him to the vet Friday and Saturday; Friday he was given an antibiotic shot and a painkiller. Saturday I was given 0.15ml oral Baytril to syringe feed him 2x day. His wound is now healing nicely.

Next to his scrotum, he has a bulge; it tends to favour the right-hand-side, but can move to the left. It's soft to the touch and moves if you gently push it. Is this the start of an abscess, or is it the remainder of his testicles? (I can't believe I'm having to ask what his testicles should look like!)

An abscess is a swelling which often, though not always, bursts through the skin and discharges pus, which is creamy, yellow and often foul smelling.
The swelling could be an abscess, it could be the remnants of the fat pads, which should have been removed as leaving them in place can predispose the op. site to becoming infected. The chance of the swelling being the remainder of a testicle should be nil, he was operated on to have them removed!
The dose of oral Baytril is too low, it should be 0.4ml twice daily. Note, this is assuming that the Baytril is 2.5% and the pig is adult weight.

Guinea pigs can get hernias after castration, which can be serious. I would take him back to the vet in the morning and ask if this is a possibility.
