So glad that HE is doing better on the Zithromax! I'm always so glad to hear an abscess story resolve happily! Go Noodle!

My Noodles sending wheeks to your Noodle

We are all pleased that Noodle is feeling better & jealous that you are within reach of "The God Of Piggy Vets" Simon Maddock - I also have a Noodles - also Known as noodledoodle & noods (and a Truffles & a Bumble ).
Read so many stories of poorly piggies over the last few days & its a real eye opener when your new to guineas - Must confess my piggies were bought for daughter as birthday present (not by me I hasten to add ) - From same place as yours - so there is much more to learn than you think- the only thing I am going to suggest is either a jam jar or piggy jar to pop a few pounds a week in for possible future vets fees, or taking out guinea pig insurance through exotic direct - its about £6.50 per month per piggy.

Healing weeks
:):)

Zithromax is a great antibiotic, especially for abscesses. It's just a pity that more vets aren't willing to use it. I think everyone with piggies should move to Northamptonshire so they can go to Simon! :))

Well I have to thank you for pointing me to him! I wish I could do a job where I could take all poorly piggies to him, like a piggle taxi.....and I shall tell Noodle that there are other Noodles out there TAN!

And don't worry, these little naughties will always get what they need!

BRILLIANT NEWS! I'm so pleased to hear that things are going so well! (And glad that you unwittingly chose names which I think are equally just as cute for boars as they are for sows!)

About the neutering...was it suggested that neutering would change their behaviour or have I misunderstood that? It's just that I always understood that neutering guinea pigs does not affect behaviour (just stops their ability to reproduce).

Yes, it was suggested it might calm Super down, but only if both are.

That's interesting. As I said, I've always been told that neutering won't affect behaviour but maybe for some pigs it does. I wonder if anyone around here has experience of neutered boars 'calming down' as a result of being neutered..I'd be very interested to hear! :)

I've only had a few boars castrated, but I really feel they have changed after the op. Now that could be because they have then been put in with sows and that in itself has changed their behaviour. Eric, in particular, was a very fiesty little man, but after he had been castrated and became part of a group with three sows he became very submissive. In fact for a while I was worried they were bullying him, but he seems happy enough but without doubt he is bottom of the hierachy.

I guess if anyone has boars castrated in the hope they will then get on better together, and it doesn't work, then they have the option of getting them each a girlfriend.

My experience is that it doesnt change any sexual or hierarcy charitaristics in the behaviour between boars.
I have noticed that the older the boars got (castrated or not) then they settled down in these behaviours anyway.

So my believe is that it is age that makes a dirrence in the change of boar behaviour

Noted, I obviously don't know either way, but we've got at least 6 weeks before we would make any decision anyway....
