Just to show everyone the wonderful needlework skills of the wonderful Simon Maddock of the Cat & Rabbit Clinic :)

I found a large lump under Ziggy's neck/chin last Thursday & booked her in to see Simon today with the view that he may want to remove it. Luckily it was just an abscess; a large 1.5 cm one though rolleyes

This picture is literally just after I got her home & you can see why he is such a marvelous vet. He was so lovely to her as she was petrified & to see the way he clearly adores these little creatures is fantastic! This is how all vets should be in my opinion :)

She is already eating/pooping etc & apart from being a little slower than normal she is fine. I have a dose of Zithro-max & Metacam to give her in a moment & hopefully all being well she won't need further treatment. This is the 2nd piggy this year that has had abscess & he has successfully (& neatly) removed the whole capsule as it was treated early. GA is not something to be scared of if a competent vet is in charge so anyone that finds a suspicious lump please get them looked at as soon as you can :)

What a neat job, pleased to hear Ziggy is making good progress - thanks for sharing:)

I'm so glad she's ok! It's so worrying when they need surgery but it helps knowing you have a great vet! Can I ask, how did he know it was an abscess and not a cyst? (Just because mine have lumps and the vet wasn't too sure what they were!)

I think Simon can tell by feeling the way the lump moves & whether it is smoothly rounded etc. I think if your piggy has more than one lump then it is more likely to be fatty lumps & an abscess is usually one on it's own. If you monitor the lump carefully & if it seems to be growing then I would get it surgically removed if possible. In my view it is unnecessary to put a piggy through a GA to get a biopsy done then another GA for removal when it can all be done in one go. Simon then cut into the abscess after & examined the contents & he was certain it was an abscess (yuk!) :)

Hey nice job! I regret not taking a photo of DT after her ovarian cyst surgery. She was cut from the bottom of her rib cage downwards by about 3 inches! She looked horrendous. The stitch job was quick aswell because the operation was tricky and lengthy so the vet was reluctant to keep her under longer just to practice his embroidery! She nibbled on one stitch which created a pocket of blood tinged fluid (I thought she was bleeding but it wasnt).. then about 3 weeks later, the line just disappeared and the hair grew back and you would have NEVER known!

Good vets are astonishing aren't they!
