minty is of balance with his walking and seems to have a swollen cheek. am guessing it might be an abscess and is near the ear causing the balance problem. he is moving his head in a weird way. he is eating, lastnight is when i noticed his walk and the swelling, have given him some baytril, am of to work soon and won't be home till 8, such a worry

have sent an email to my rodentologist and am hoping that he might be able to see minty tonight, all i have to do now is try and talk my partner into taking him, it's an hour drive. can i do anything for him before i go work? he seems happy.

Well done for giving him the baytril, did you have some pain relief too?
I'm glad you've emailed your rodentologist, i'm also hoping they can see you today also, really does sound like Minty needs care a.s.a.p. O0
Good luck, sending healing wheeks :smitten: :smitten:

Sheridan had an abscess, I'd take the piggy to the vet and get it drained they can be very nasty :)

Poor little thing. Bloody abscesses :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Poor Minty :( Hope you get to see the vet asap. Keep us posted on his progress.
Does anyone know why/how piggies get abscesses? None of mine have had one, but read about so many on here that get them and they just come up overnight! :-\

I asked the vet actually. He said its either hay that pokes into the gum and gets stuck, or a seed or bit of hard food.

Oh interesting! they get them elsewhere too though don`t they, like on their tummies etc, though ones under the chin or side of face do seem to be the most common.

My snickers has just had one appear on her belly pretty much over night... ill be taking her to the vets tomorrow, ill let u know how it goes...

Well Sheridan's abscess has almost gone. I can feel the tiniest bit, smaller than a pea. It only needed lancing once, 2 injections of Tribissen and some oral baytril and its gone :)
