Absolute unit of a pig

Not sure what to name this lol sorry.
I’m always looking on here and have never seen pig with a weight close to Bruno, he’s now at 1.9kg and is stable at that weight. When I went to get Ozzy checked I of course got Bruno checked as well and the vet was very happy with him. He runs just as fast as Ozzy and he’s generally happy and very active. He’s just very very big lol. Weight wise and length wise. Is there anything to worry about or are some pigs just...big?

Thank you :) he is a stunning little one. I get really concerned because people consider piggies that are way under him to be big, but he’s no different to Ozzy and they get the same amounts of food - he doesn’t food hog from what I’ve seen either so it’s a mystery to me
 
Piggies are like people - different sizes.
Some people are very tall while some of us barely manage 5’

My Jemimah is usually around 1300g but she’s not overweight. On the other hand, Priscilla would be overweight at 1300g - her normal weight is around 1100g
 
Such cute names all around for pigs on this thread :) I notice with Ozzy he’s normal weight but he’s smaller so he looks a little pudgy, when Bruno stands up he’s just a long and evened out big, when he sits down his bum just sploots and he looks ever so cute lol
 
He’s just a big handsome boy, he looks a long piggie like my Ted. Ted is quite a bit longer than Bill. Ted is always heavier than Bill, his top weight was just under 1.4 kg. He lost a bit of weight recently due to teeth problems but is steadily putting it back on.
He’s gorgeous I love a big piggie x
 
I consider my boar big at 1.4 g but but 1.9 is a big big lad. Must be big framed. Any chance he has cuy breed in him?

Honestly I couldn’t tell you, I got them from p@h (didn’t know better at the time but so glad I got them) a lot of people said he’s an agouti, that’s as far as my knowledge goes I’m afraid
 
My old neighbours used to breed piggies and they had a huge piggie called Badger cos he looked like one and by all accounts he was about half the size of a badger whether this story has been changed with the telling I can only guess! They had no cuy breeds. Some piggies are just big and some are tiny. Dennis weighed in at his normal weight this morning of 980g and he is a healthy and happy boy.
 
I can only imagine how big that piggy was, that’s amazing to think! Thank you all for the reassurance, starting to think I have an actual capybara instead of a piggy lol :))

Some piggies are just big.

In our weight guide we recommend to look at two things when checking the weight. the first is weighing on the scales. This is useful for monitoring the weight weekly and catch developing health problems early on.
With ill guinea pigs, you weigh daily at the same time in order to monitor the actual food intake; since hay is making over 80%, there is no other reliable way of controlling whether your piggy is eating enough to hold their weight or is needing extra support.

But there is a second way of checking on your piggy's weight which is just as important as weighing, and that is feeling for the 'heft' around the ribs. This is to keep an eye on the weight/size ratio (or if you want to call it that the BMI of a guinea pig) - i.e. is your piggy overweight, just right or underweight. With the enormous range in weight and sizes, what is ideal for the average piggy can be overweight for a daintily built piggy and skinny for a bruiser. So weight in itself is not the ultimate answer!
Checking the heft is the method with which you can check at any age and any size whether your piggy is fine in itself even if you have a baby or do not have a standard model but a the equivalent of a 6 ft 7 in giant... It works for every piggy!

Please take the time to read our weight guide for the exact details. You should find it actually very interesting as there is a lot more to it than you would think - and it is an important and potentially life saving tool to judge your piggies' health throughout life.

Do it as part of a snuggle session or when he has his mouth full of food. ;)
 
Just plopped him on the bed and snuggled, had a feel and can definitely not feel ribs. They have a slice of cucumber, little bit of coriander and some lettuce per day. As well as a teaspoon of nuggets once a day and unlimited hay. Is there anything I can do with maybe slimming him down a little bit?
 
He looks like a long piggy so it could just be proportionate to his frame. My biggest piggy is 1.5kg. His build is pretty stocky and I like to think some of his weight is the massive amount of long hair he has. 😂 I have quite a few stocky boars who are between 1.3-1.4kg. However, two are more athletic looking with a smaller frame and they are 1.2kg. As long as they are all happy and healthy, I think they all look like they carry their weight well so I’m not too worried. 😀
 
awwww lol my piggy has such long hair you have to actually have your hands in it to see how long it is though, long and thick haired piggies are blessed :)
 
bunny was so so beautiful! I wish I could give her hugs, i think my boy is built big as well but he is a little overweight I think
 
hiya, to add to this i've weighed him again and he's sitting at a massive 2kg, read through the guides and i'm sure i'm doing everything right. is it a time to come off of veg or nuggets for a bit?
