hi all,
so i’m currently struggling with my guinea pig snoop. for context, rent has come out super early this month and i can’t pay for a vet visit until my next pay check hits. anyway, my guinea pig snoop is acting slightly off, and it only started today. he’s quiet, a bit lethargic and hiding more than usual. obviously he’s eating, and i think drinking but ive not necessarily seen him drink water. he runs away when i try to pick him up, so that’s still normal. i’ve checked him over like a basic health check, and i can’t see anything but obviously i’m not a vet. any advice would be great whilst i’m waiting. i’m going to see if i can lend money, however idk when that will be and never leave my pigs without a check so I'm a little nervous. if anyone has any suggestions on what to do currently that would be great! could the cold weather affect him? i keep my window cracked so it’s slightly chilly in my room, but not freezing.

Hi

Please keep the window closed and switch from weighing once weekly to weighing daily first thing in the morning on your kitchen scales.

Please be aware that over three quarters of what a piggy eats in a day is unlimited day, which you cannot check by eye since piggies also chew on cud. All the other things they eat only replace together the supplementary role of wild forage.
Step in with feeding support according to the weight rules in this link here:

At the moment, without any more distinct symptoms or any clear weight loss, all you can do is monitor the food intake via your scales and observe.

Here is our emergency care advice. Please accept that your home care cannot replace any necessary vet care and medication. You will have to see a vet if he continues to deteriorate and loses his appetite completely and/or is showing clearer symptoms.

I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed for Snoop.

i have taken him out of his cage for closer supervision. currently he’s making his usual happy noises and exploring. however i’ve noticed a slight crackle in his breathing and have immediately put him back on a nebuliser. his stomach is soft, however it’s hard to tell by eye if it’s swollen. i’ve shut my window now and will keep it that way. could it be possible it’s down to a uri? i’ve had guinea pigs with this before but the symptoms were a lot more obvious than this. thank you.
