So...my husband is on a verbal rampage because i rescued 2 more piggies from our local pet store today! I say "rescued" because they are disgusting when it comes to taking care of the pets they have for sale (as i've gone on about in previous threads)! Anyway, what he doesnt know is that i have a lovely British lady who wants them and already has everything prepared to give them a wonderful home. I just need to hold onto them for 3 days (really i dont want to give them away:sly: ) so she can finish settle into her new apartment...we already went together to get thier cage and everything! I may not be able to start a GP rescue here right now but i'm going to make it my mission that not another GP dies in the care of that pet shop! FYI in the past 5 months 4 baby GPs have died there and many are being bullied and seriously hurt because every gender, age, breed and sex is being kept in 1 38"x20" cage...and sometimes there is as many as 5-8 pigs in there at 1 time!

My husband thinks i'm going too far now LOL ... Am i crazy?
 
have you reported the pet shop to the local council with pictures etc? My only concern is that otherwise you keep feeding the pockets of this disgraceful shop and they keep churning out badly treated animals.

I thought so too! I just felt a little bad and needed to vent...ultimately i know i'm doing the right thing but from his point of view he thinks i'm taking on too much responsibility! I can't wait to say "shame on you for your behavior" when he finds out that i'm not even keeping the little guys!

I've put together along with a friend of mine that works at a local vet a folder with pictures and dated notes etc. to the department of agriculture here and they just keep saying that they are going to look into it. Here the saying "thy friend has a friend" is too literal...everyone with money or profitable businesses get away with murder...because the people that should regulate them are almost always friends with them!

Sorry I do forget that people are all over the world on this forum. It must be so hard knowing that something should be done but isn't going to be :(
 
If the authorities won't act, perhaps an article in the newspaper might help...peer pressure to get them to act. Poor wee things, I can understand why you can't leave them alone.

A newspaper article would help however, my father was a well none ex-politician and one of the directors of our government and has just gone to jail for corruption, theft, drug use ect...so i'm so afraid to have any light shed on me that will attract more attention. For me i have nowhere to run or hide and i face this everyday...it is extremely hard and i hope i do not sound selfish but this man has made my life allot harder to live here on this small little island! For the longest time i wouldn’t even leave my house and take my kids anywhere and I’ve had people take back their banking business because i work here at the bank! It's just really hard right now being under the light of my father's poor image; having to consistantly prove that i am not him and face the questions and the pity !

Yes, I've experienced that sort of thing when I lived in Trinidad for 2 years. When my telephone went on the blink it took 5 months to repair because neither I or my landlord knew anybody in the telephone company! I can understand that you're not likely to get far with your complaints & so have decided to do what you can. Glad that at least those 2 piggies are now going to a good home.
 
You're not crazy you just care. Last year I saw an advert on pre loved of a puppy staff for sale for 100 pounds... " as the owner couldn't give him the attention he needed". I go there he was underweight, not right and not house trained even at 17 weeks ahe was a young girl and he was kept in a third floor flat... I have her the money and took him, gave him a home for a week, potty trained hhim and adopted him out to a lady on a farm. All my friends say I was mad to pay but I didn't care. " Murphy " is one happy boy now! Good on you for doing that but I would also advise on reporting this obviously awful place!

This is a lovely thing to do! Helping the pet shop majorly by taking some pigs from them and their horrid conditions and your helping the new owner by taming them a little. This is a really kind and caring thing to do! Well done u!
