Hey everyone,

Adding a neutered boy to my girls in a few weeks, just reserved him at a rescue :yahoo:

He is absolutely gorgeous.

I do have some questions. He is based about two hours away from me and some of that journey will be made by train. Now I will be taking plenty of hay and some cucumber but has anyone got a make of a carrier that’s best? I usually take mine in a cat carrier to vets as it’s not far. But where it’s so cold I want a decent male to try and shelter him as much as possible..

I will be reading lots more about bonding but I just want to clarify a few things, I understand that it needs to be done at a netruel area, is this somewhere they’ve never done floor time before? I will be doing a deep clean on the cage before putting back in, but can fleece items be put in? (Clean). I understand that I should change the layout as much as possible but should I buy a few new items that has no scent on them?

Sorry for the long message but so excited I just want to be prepared as possible :yahoo:

Oh, lucky boy! How exciting x
A cat carrier will be fine for the journey. No experience on bonding sorry. Looking forward to seeing plenty of photos once they are settled x

Hello, we are newish to The Guinea Pig Forum and we have had our 2 guinea pigs about a month now. We just wanted to know if you know any good bedding fo the guinea pigs that won’t be messy and go everywhere. Sorry to interrupt your chat as well.

There are loads of threads about bedding. Go to the Search button (top right) and type in Bedding and choose a thread and have a read.

I think the cat carrier will be okay. As for bonding I'd definitely suggest looking at the thread Betsy posted!
Also send lots of piggy pics once you pick him up :D

The Potteries Guinea Pig Rescue recently bonded a neutered boar (Georgie) with our pair of sows (Mavis and Peggy). It was quite lively, especially when we got them home and very smelly (boar stink). We had to separate Georgie from the girls on the first night as he was a bit too enthusiastic (he could still interact with them through the divider). We put them back into a large bonding pen the next day and left them there most of the day before returning them to their cage. Things were much calmer by then. They are now a happy trio, with Peggy being top pig.
Please be aware that not every bonding will work out and have a plan B for your boar if your girls just won't accept him.

Thank you. Hopefully the bonding goes well. The rescue said they would be happy to take him back if they don’t go on however I don’t think I could so would probably stack the cage, & maybe get him a gf. So two plan B’s. See what happens. I hope they get on. I’m counting down the days :love:

Hope it all goes well. Both the boars we have are real characters and very friendly. If I'm working from home Georgie waits until the girls are both in the hay tray (in their loft) and then begs silently at the front of the cage until he gets a treat from me (I think he knows I'm a bit of a soft touch).

I’ve never had a boy before. He is 2 and half hours away but as soon as I saw him I fell in love. Can’t wait to bring him home

We fell in love with Mavis and Peggy in the rehoming section of the forum. We drove from Manchester to Devon to collect them. It was definitely worth it.
Can't wait to see the pictures of your new boy. :luv:
