Just out of curiosity, has anyone had success adding a baby boar to their adult?

Just exploring possible future options for Rodney in my quest to find him a new friend...

;/

Hazelnut was 10 months old (so more like an older teenager) when we introduced 1 month old Peanut Butter to him. They're still together. Peanut Butter will be 1 year old this month and Hazelnut will be 2 years old in November.

Peanut Butter loved being near Hazelnut straight away but H was indifferent to him until very recently and now he will allow PB to cuddle with him for a few minutes.

We only had to cope with PB going through his stroppy teenage months. He was constantly mounting H and H shrugging him off. One day though PB got boar glue over H and that was it for H. Hazelnut chased PB around all day with PB squeaking at the top of his lungs. After that no problems!

See I'd hate for Rodney to get bullied by a teenage pig later on... But I have read good & bad reports. He's a very gentle little man... Ill try an adult date first
Just thinking of it this doesn't work out... ;/

I like the baby idea... I never had any teenage drama with my 2 they've been Angels! Bet he picks a right horror! Haha

And how did you introduce them? X

Although i don't have an end result, when i did have a bonding session with a baby, they were put in a run together inside, on neuteral territory that smelt like no other piggies, a big pile of hay was put in and they had some fresh grass to eat together, they were both put in at the same time and they were watched and everything just went fine, the usual humping etc. but it was all good (:

I bought a second cage and put Peanut Butter in it. They then lived side by side (cages were side by side) for 2 weeks quarantine. Then they were introduced in a floor run. All went well in that PB followed H everywhere while H ignored him and waddled about. But we had already seen with the side by side arrangement that they appeared to be communicating well.

Then a brand new bigger 3rd home (none of their cages were big enough in themselves for 2 boars), doubles of eveything, popped them in and 3 of us took shifts to keep a 24 hour watch.

Do they pay much attention to each other in the side by side then? God I have no room for that I'll have to move out! Haha. I'm sure I'd manage. I have bought c&c but am deliberately not using it til he has a friend so it's new to both piglets. I do have a spare cage in my mums loft tho I could use that for a new boy.... Exciting yet scary! Eek!

Yes they were softly muttering to each other when they were side by side and you could tell they were curious about each other. They weren't close enough to touch only to see and smell. Otherwise the quarantine would have been useless! Know what you mean about the space!

It's a long story but I eventually realised Hazelnut's cage was too small and I deliberately bought the same tiny cage for PB since it was only for 2 weeks. The huge home they have now takes up more space than the 2 small cages. I still keep the smaller ones for vet visits, travel and so on.

Your idea of using the C & C when you have both is very good. That way a brand new home for both.

Aww thanks I'll check out the link, I can't wait for him to have a new friend I feel so bad for him being on his own! It's good to hear from someone who's done it.

Thanks guys x
