Was just wondering, would it be successful adding a boar to my boys? Bearing in mind they are only 6 months old. I have had a hard think and am adding a second floor so would my cage be big enough?

was just thinking the same, how many more girls could i fit into the new cage... but I decided it wouldn't be fair to the trio - i find it difficult enough to juggle the lap time now so adding more would mean less time for the three i have now. It's just really hard when there are all these piggies being posted on here as needing homes... plus i have the added complication of the foster boy i have, he's intact and I already have a boar and two sows.

Thank you. I am definately not wanting to rush into it just yet as I don't want any upset between my lads, but I would happily rescue one from here if it could be successful. I really want an Aby. :)

Are yours in a nero 4? Even with a loft I think it would unfortunately be too small for three boys. It depends on the personalities, but from what I've heard three boars can be complicated as one is often bullied.

If you feel you really want another pig (abby), maybe it would be easier to just get another pair? The cages stack, you know... :)) I know a girl in Sweden who has 6 boar pairs :)

Yes, it's a Nero 4 equivalent. How do you stack them safely? Oh I don't know, don't tempt me with 2! :o:(|)

How about if I was lucky enough to find a spayed sow? Would they fight over her?

I would refrain from a trio of boars and have two pairs of boars, I would also wait until your boys reach a year just incase they fall out....

sorry to be so negative about your plans :))

It is ok! :))

Everytime I see an Abby, I melt and I have forced myself not to think about getting another until now...:o

Edit: A sow is out of the question then! :(

I have two boars in a 2x4 with a 2x1 hayloft, we have just aquired a 3rd boy and I am considering trying to introduce them but I'm not sure if I would have them living together. when I move I am probably going to extend the cage 1 grid top and bottom so there will be more space but I dont want to risk any falling out!

Hate to be a spoil sport, but my theory if it's not broke leave it.

I've saw first hand how boars can go wrong and I only had 2, I personally wouldn't risk it.

You could get another cage though and stack them on top as others have suggested.

I would love to add to my piggies, but with Fred being intact it's not possible and I'm really glad it's not fair on them yes another friend maybe nice, but I like to give my pigs alot of time and would feel they weren't getting enough attention each.

I only wanted 2 pigs... I have 3 rolleyes. Already over my limit :)).

I think what I might do is leave it a while until I can afford a huge C&C then I could get 2 Abys with a grid between them.

I love my boys and feel bad thinking of other piggies. :(

I agree, unless you are prepared to end up with 3 single boars then I wouldn't risk a happy pair :)

Even having a grid between one pair of boars and another might cause them to fall out, if they can rumble at each other :(

It can work, I've had 3 boars together here a couple of times, but they chose it rather than me. It would be a shame for Hoggle and Ludo to fall out, and 6 months of age is a rather tense time anyway as their hormones start to kick in :)

I don't want to rock the piggy boat, I don't spend enough time with them as it is with them now being upstairs, I might bring them down later to play. :)

I shouldn't be thinking this way, but I do love the Aby! x):(|)

If anyone nearby has one, I will play with that for a while if that is ok then that will give me my fix! ;)

How can I even THINK of considering upsetting my boys for my own selfishness? :0

Sorry for joining the choir - do not try to mess up a working duo!

At worst, you can end up with all boys falling out with each others. At best, you are in with for quite a bit of upset; 3 piggies is so often 2+1. In my experience, it is the most difficult combination for bonding; especially with a well established, happy pair.

If you want to add, you're better off starting a new group or sponsoring a rescue pensioner piggy if you can't.

Thank you. I really want to keep my boys happy so I know it is a bad idea. If anyone has any of their Aby's to post, I will happily drool over them! :(|)

Don't feel bad! I think most of us secretly covet other piggies sometimes. My last "maybe...?" was a 4 year old brown teddy girl, but in the end I realised that another piggy would mean I couldn't take them to Gothenburg as easily and I would need a different travel cage etc.

But I still look :) I call it window shopping!

AS your boys are entering the difficult phase, I would recommend waiting with any additions until they are over a year old, in case you have a fallout (which I hope not!)

I really hope they don't fall out! :(

Although they are upstairs and I don't hear them much :( I have never witnessed and rumble strutting for a while when I have been peeping on them, also, Hoggle doesn't get thrown out of the cave now. He always ended up sat out with nowhere to go. :(
