I have two non related 18 month old neutered males and I’m thinking of introducing a baby female I’m after some advice

I know how to introduce them the males were quite easy and excepting of each other they have lived together for 15 months now I am just not sure if the will bully a new member the vet thinks that it will be a good idea to add to the group
If I was to introduce a female baby how old should she be I have a large two storey cage so space should not be a problem and they are house pigs I have a friend who has just had an unexpected litter so I was thinking of housing one of them

Simple answer is don't. Your males will fight over the female and it'll all end in tears. Bonded male duos are best left that way or separated to have a female each

You would need to separate both boars and have them neutered, then after 6 weeks introduce a female to each in separate cages?

I have two boars and they get along well, I would not like to break them up, I would only split and neuter if they weren’t getting along.

Hi!

Am I right in understanding that you want to have the baby girl living with your boys in a shared cage?

The simple answer is - DON'T EVEN THINK OF IT! Introducing a sow to a boar pair (whether it is neutered/de-sexed or not) is by far the most surefire way of causing fights and a fall-out between the boys. You really can't do it any quicker and more assuredly! Two boars with a sow don't work (nor do two boars with two sows).

Introducing sows into a boars only room can pose problems at the best of times. If you can, please keep it to boys only, and keep them in pairs. Any sows should be kept well out of sight and out of reach of pheromones to not set off the boys whenever they come into season - and the presence of boar pheromones in a room is going to trigger quite a strong response from the girls.

If you still want the girl, you will need to find her either another sow companion or a neutered boar with at least a 6 weeks post-operation wait, but she will not go with your boys in any sustainable way. Please do not break up a working boar pair.

I would also rather strongly recommend to find a vet with better knowledge of guinea pigs.

Please take the time to read these links here:

.. The OP mentioned that their boars are neutered, so providing they are absolutely sure of that, they should be ok to pair each of them separately up with a sow, yes? Assuming they have space etc for two separate cages of course.
I agree though that the vet doesn't seem that clued up about guinea pigs and it would be a good idea to find one who is, before they are needed. :tu::nod:

So with a sow and boar pair , you can add another sow.

With a sow and sow , you can add a boar, same as above lol but going by what you have first

Boar and boar pair , stay as you are . Is this right?

Yes - basically you can have a pair/group of sows, or one (neutered) boar with any number of sows, or two boars together but no others.

Hope it helped

How many unexpected babies did your friends sow have, is she keeping them all (except for any you might give a home to)?
