Administering eye drops

Hi folks. I’ve posted this as a separate post from hay-poke earlier as I now seek advice. Benny Bo Bo is a very wriggly piggie and I don’t have anyone to hold him when I give him the drops as suggested on the forums illness page

IF anyone has any tips on how best to do this I would be most grateful. I will exude confidence but fear I may go well off target

I would suggest wrapping him up in a towel if he really won't keep still, then pop him in the towel on your lap and put the eye drop in x

Thank you so much. He hasn’t stopped eating since he came home and his eye looks so much better already. I can’t believe how he just let me put the eye drops in so easily. So happy my boy is ok

Hi

There are two ways to apply eye drops when you are on your own.
- Wrap him firmly in a towel and hold fix him between your thigh so you have both hands free to pull down the lower lid and try to get some drops in.
- Sit in a chair/sofa and place him on your thighs, facing away from you. Put a large bowl of grass or his favourite veg in front of him. Wait until he is fully absorbed and then sneak you hand from his blind spot on his back towards the eye. Guinea pigs don't multitask, so he is far less aware of his body and surroundings when he is concentrating on munching away.

Brace yourself that it still won't work on your first attempt. It usually takes me more than one try when the eye is really sore and the piggy very uncooperative.
