Hey everyone,

A couple weeks ago i adopted a 4 week old guinea pig. He was very weak and barely weighed anything. He had a bacterial infection and he had a hard time breathing. His eyes were “glued” shut with snot.
I decided to take him home to my other piggies and take care of him and try to make him better.
I went to the vet with him for 3 times and he was on 3 different types of medication and had to give it to him multiple times during the day.
I force fed him with mashed banana to make him gain some weight. And i think he’s finally getting better! He is almost 300 grams now and popcorning🥰 He’s getting along well with my other bears and he’s getting kisses from them.

Welcome to the forum

I’m so glad you have taken him in and helped him.

Do note though that mashed banana is not good for him (it’s far too much sugar) and not what he needs to gain weight. Please do stop giving it if you havent already.
He needs plenty of hay along with critical care or mushed pellets top up feeds (if he isn’t gaining weight on just hay) for the fibre along with plenty of hay intake.

I note you mention other boars. If he is living in with an already bonded pair of boars, then so be aware that a trio of boars isn’t usually stable for the long term and they usually end up fighting and needing to be separated once the teens hit (with the potential for it destroying the bond between your original piggies also).

My vet recommended giving him mashed banana. Just one or two slices a day. Because he was far to skinny and wasn’t gaining weight at all while eating hay, pallets and veggies all day. Since he’s gaining weight now and eating well I stopped feeding him the extra banana. But thanks for your concern!
