Adopted Piggie (today) Dandruff

Hi,

my son took Big's off to see his new friend today and he ended up coming back with Big's :) Hopefully they stay fine, Buster was cleaning Big's, he'll be Jericho once I know he's fine with Big's lol.

When we took him to my room (that's where their cage is) I noticed he kept doing something weird, he was stretched out and kept lifting his back end up (never noticed the others do this before) and as I was looking at him he looks as though he has dandruff, I know this can be a start of a fungal infection or mites, is there any other reason for him to have dandruff? The area it's in seems to always be sticking up?

I'm now a bit paranoid when it comes to our guinea pigs with us losing two since February, it's been a nightmare and I haven't taken the second one's (Sheamus) passing so well as I was close to him.

I don't think I need to take pics as it's just like dandruff, can't see any skin problem. It's annoyed me a bit because again they've given us a guinea with something wrong with it, this is the second one, the other one end up really sick which is the one we ended up having pts in February. I've asked them if he's been vet checked, just waiting for a reply.

Best have him vet checked and if necessary treated. if you do not want to conduct a full quarantine, you may have to treat both boys at the same time, epsecially if they have already been in contact.
 
They quarantined him for just over a week, it's 2 weeks isn't it? :/ I never thought about how many days it was duh, I just went and checked because I thought it was 2 weeks, but no it's about one week and two days :/ Even if they did have him the full two weeks I don't think they would have noticed it. Aidan had to clean his penis and bottom as well.

They are doing that dominance stuff to each other atm, I'm keeping an eye, but usually Big's doesn't bite, Sheamus did when Big's annoyed him but when Sheamus did it back (humping) Big's used to run around whining lol.
 
Just an update @Wiebke

The vet told Aidan that both Jericho and Big's are producing too much grease but it's actually irritated Jericho's skin hence the dandruff, she said if it had been left that he would have probably ended up with dermatitis. The vet gave us some scrub that she used on Jericho while he was there and I think some inflammatory but not 100% sure about that as I was getting confused lol. She used it on his back end as well. So that's Big's and Jericho all sorted lol.
 
Hibiscrub is a disinfectant and metacam the anti-inflammatory/painkiller. Good that you have had your boys seen and that it is not something major - but certainly something that needs addressing.
 
Yeah I'm glad Aidan took them in because I would have worried with him having dandruff.

Would his fur stick up a bit if his skin was hurting him? That was one of the reasons apart from the dandruff for taking him to the vets.

Could you post a picture? It can be a breed thing, not an health problem.
