Hi all. I am considering adopting a rescue pig from rspca with very long and curled nails. I know this is not good for their health. If I go ahead, what can I do about it?
Thanks
Thanks foryour reply.No. She would be joining my little herd. The nails are very long which is why I'm asking. Way too long to cut in one go. All I can think of is cutting them a tiny bit over a long period of time. ..? Tthe rspca vet hasn't treated it, so me wonder whether a vet can do anything when nails are very bad?
In the long term, you will have to cut them shorter every time you do her nails in order to get to a normal level. Hopefully, the RSPCA fosterer will have been able to cut off the worst of it!
My pig had curled nails when I got him, and I cut them down to size over 3 sessions so not to stress him (or me!) out. I think I read somewhere that every 6 weeks or so you can trim? If you just keep an eye on her nails though you'll be able to judge for yourself when she needs them doing!
