Hello,

Newbie here!
I'm currently just looking into all the possibilities & to make sure we are prepared before opening our doors to more animals. I was wondering on the best places to look for guinea pigs. We all know Pets at home but I'd like to explore other options. When I was a kid we were gifted a couple of our neighbours offspring, i currently don't know anyone with guinea pigs to ask. So that leaves me thinking about adoption/rescue centres. I'm in the North West (near to Manchester) so if anyone knows of any places i could check out i'd be appreciative. I've looked on the RSPCA's website and they have some but not many (One of the pair wasn't suitable for a home with children). Our dog was from manchester dogs home many years ago, I prefer to re-home before buying 'new'.

Welcome to our friendly forum! Have a look at the Rescue Locator at the top of the page for Rescues near you. Sorry I can't link it on this device.

Recommended Guinea Pig Rescues
Have a look here for a recommended rescue near you. Would rescue if you can, the rescues recommended here vet check piggies and you know they are coming to you well bonded, plus you will have the back up/advice of the rescue if things should unfortunately go wrong.

Thanks for responding Betsy, I did have a look there earlier today, there's only the RSPCA listed near enough to me. Hoping someone on here may have some personal experience of places to share.

Thanks for replying, I've looked there already. Only the RSPCA listed though. I've also checked the RSPCA websites for local area's and stock is low for the distance i'm prepared to travel. Also I have a 3yr old son and some can't be re-homed with children.

I’m also near Manchester and can warmly recommend the potteries guinea pig rescue in stoke on Trent who I have adopted from in the past :) Helen who runs the rescue currently has lots of boar pairs in looking for homes and is currently full

Hi! Thanks for replying. I'll take a look into this rescue. Stoke is about an hour away. I'm not quite ready to adopt just yet. I'd also like the heat to subside a bit too!

Hi, I am also in the Manchester area. A few of mine have been adopted from various places. A few were free from ad's on gumtree. It is always worth checking selling sites (not always the best way of getting them but it is an option).
I got one of my boys from the pets at home adoption scheme (support adoption for pets), they do have pairs sometimes as well.

Other than that I have had a few from Tameside rescue in Manchester. I know a few other members have adopted from here as well. It might be worth giving Elaine a call when you are ready to discuss things with her. They also have a facebook page. They are often too busy to update the pictures and have too many in but she does let you go and look round and take your time to choose.

Welcome to the forum! Certainly adopt from a rescue if you can!

Thanks for this information! I didn't know there was a rescue in tameside, that's better location wise for us!

Tameside just posted in Facebook that they have quite a number of guinea pigs and rabbits that are for adoption. Hope you find some cute little bundle of joys from them. :tu::tu:
