Was wondering where everyone gets their beautiful guinea pigs from, since alot of people on here are very very against PAH.

I have got 3 abbys and 2 silky piggies. But i really love the little rexes, peruvians, shelties and dalmations and would really like some myself but i would not know where to start to get one, has anyone got any advice for me?

I got both of mine from a pet shop but now I've decided if I ever get anymore piggies I'll be getting them from ScottishSPCA or Thistle Cavies :D
If your getting a new piggie try contacting your local rescue and if they have none ask where they would recommend.

I got Marbl from a pt shop in 2005 an sh was 8 wks ol. Poppy, w br ourslvs as on of Marbl's 3 babis, Soa was born at our hous an Sooty was prgnant whn sh was givn to us an Twinkl was also givn to us an Pbbls from PaH.

I never see any teddies, rexes, dalmations... in the pet shops.

I would also like to breed them, so other people can enjoy the gorgeous breed, and usually if you get them from the rescue centres they have neutered them and they are over 3-6 months which is the age you should first breed them to they bones do not fuse. I do understand where theyre coming from that there are too many guinea pigs without me making more!

My first few were from FOCUS DO IT ALL, when they had their pet section. Some were from accidental pregnancies and Rattie and Jovi were from friends who could not keep them.

Found mine in a hedge ;D ;D ;D ( a chance in a million :) ) and they were pregnant and had babies. If i wanted any more I'd have another litter or go to a local rescue centre to see what they had.

Have seen some lovely ones in local pet shops but don't think i could bring myself to buy one, still never say never :) plus they are so expensive £17 each!

All of mine are rescue pigs - I have 3 rexes, a PEW, an abby, a dal cross and a texel and lots of lovely pet pigs. They have come from various rescues including Second Chance, Hopper Haven, Squeaky Pigs and Thistle Cavies. All the adoption agreements I have signed always say the pigs are not to be used for breeding and that is rightly so I think. I foster and rehome pigs too and my paperwork says the same thing. They have been through enough already without being bred from. There is a huge problem with unwanted piggies in this country - 2 of the rescues I work with have over 200 pigs between them so imagine the problem nationwide............................

Some people buy their pigs direct from a breeder - I have done this once as I needed a companion for an adult boar so I needed a very young baby. I don't think I would do it again though as I do love my rescue guys so much!

The H's & The W's came from pet shops, the OH bought the W's for me & i "rescued" Huxley from a rabbit then got Hamish (a himmy rex) from the same shop as a friend for him although the staff were adamant Huxley was "too old" (he was approx 8 wks) to be with another piggie & told me to keep him with the rabbit! Angus & Fergus came from Thistle Cavies.

5 of mine came from rescue and 1 came from PAH because I saw her one her own in her own tiny hutch and no-one wanted her and she was frightened as hell, so I guiltily took her home

Rescues get lots of different pure breeds in as well as cross breeds in. ARC have just taken in a whole group of pure bred teddies in as well as some Peruvian piggies, they are hopefully going out to their new homes this afternoon.
