I was wondering if anyone knew at what age piggies are classed as adults ? mine are boars if that makes any difference ✳

I think it is six months as that is when they stop having unlimited pellets.

Unlimited pellets ? :hmm:Mine still want to eat pretty much all the time and they are 18 months

It is best to reduce the pellets as they do not need unlimited now they are fully grown.

Thanks, will check out the info on food and check I am doing the right thing ✳

I think given half a chance they'll have as much as they can stuff in!
My vet told me they need to be rationed on pellets (no more than 10% daily food) or they will eat that instead of hay which they need for teeth wearing & fibre. Ours seem to prefer hay at the moment anyway but it varies... Sometimes they lick the bowl clean & ask for more - like a pair of Labradors! :))

They only need 30g of pellets a day as hay should make up to 80% of their diet.

Thanks for that info sooo useful - will def weigh what they have been getting and adjust if I need to, they do eat lots of hay and veg too although when it comes to veg my boys are a little fussy but then saying that some hay they like better than other too ? Worse than feeding the kids lol :D

Haha fussy boys! I buy hay from hayforpets.co.uk. Mine love the ings hay.

OK will do, and will check out that site for hay as would like to get a supplier that I am confident they will like it - def worth a try

Guinea pigs reach the hormonally settled adulthood and their adult size at around 12-15 months old. From that time on, any excess of food will go into overweight rather than into body growth.

Between 4-12 months old, they count as (hormonal) teenagers or subadults.

Yeah have weighed food and prob been a little generous so will be giving more veg and less guinea food x

I thought it was anything between 12-14 months? Some take longer to grow up than others. One of my older girls Humbug didn't grow up at all, at 3 she was still a barrel of laughs..
