As some of you know, Billy has been poorly for 2 weeks now - here's the links to earlier threads http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=52818 & http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=52955.
Basically - he is nearly finishing his 14 day course of septrin & metacam but is still crying when he's weeing & he is still losing weight. He's still eating all his veg, hay & some nuggets - still acting normal & up at the bars at feeding time. I've wormed him & given him some syringe feeds but it's making no difference.
To be honest, when the vet did his last xray & said there were crystals, I'm sure he actually means a stone because that's what it looked like to me. What do you all think? I'm going to go back to the vets tomorrow with him - should I insist on an op to remove it?

I am sorry things just aren't improving for Billy yet, you're doing so well looking after him, doing everything you can do.

I would certainly insist on another x-ray at least Suzanne, two weeks in enough for crystals to form stones. It does sound like it may be more than just cystitis and crystals. I hope it's not more, of course, but something is still 'not right' there. xx

Thanks Laura - when I look at the xrays on guinea lynx showing stones, it's what Billy's xray looked like but the vet said it looks to have been there a while & would probably come back following the op. I trust my vet completely but this has made me feel a little nervous :...

I can only give you the same advice as Laura - have another x-ray done.

Normally, you see some improvement in cystitis over the course of two weeks - the pain should disappear withing a few days. If not, you need to look for other causes. Do not overlook the problems that bladder sludge or a small stone stuck in the urethra can cause. Crystals can form very quickly.
