I have three boys, all about 18 months - 2 years approx (i got them from a friend of a friend, so cant say for sure). You can see them <------ in the picture!
One is a very sweet little black chap (BlackPig), happily sits for cuddles, tells you when he needs to go to the loo etc.
One is a large brown fella (BrownPig), he was always the boss, he doesnt sit still and loves running around the floor, very friendly and comes to see you every chance he gets.
The last one (Beans) is slightly younger (i think), and has pretty much humped the others since he arrived last November. He is also very timid (but is getting better slowly) and also doesnt sit still, in fact a few times he has tried nipping me to get away and run around the floor.
I am not a novice owner, but i have never had pigs who wouldnt sit and be cuddled before. But then i have also never had pigs who are allowed free running around the floor whenever they are in either.
Beans will sit still for a bit (5 mins max ) if he is in the PigBag (one of those fleecy bags) with BlackPig, as will BrownPig. Beans and BrownPig bicker in the PigBag. Usually they hear one of the others on the floor and make a break for it.
So firstly, any thoughts about getting the other two to sit still for a while? They wont eat while being cuddled, or will ignore it as they know they get fed later.
Secondly, as mentioned, Beans has always been a humper, but now he and BrownPig are fighting, I have never seen them at it, but BrownPig has scratches and scabs on his bum, which i found the other day while checking for flystrike. I was away for 6 weeks and came back at the beginning of June, so they could still be settling back in at Home, or it could be more serious in that Beans is asserting dominance by biting rather than humping.
I have no room for 2 cages, and they have to be outside during the day as the indoor cage is in a conservatory which will get FAR too hot for them, and no room for 2 outdoor runs either. So they have to stay together. I have had a neutered Boar before, and he was a much friendlier chap after he was done, but he was with a female. Is it ok to keep a neutered boar with 2 entire boars?
I was thinking of having Beans 'done' and keeping the other two whole, as they arent the problem. But Beans is a nervous nellie and this may put our relationship back a bit if he realises he really does have something to fear from me! It should stop the humping and the fighting, and will keep the costs down from having them all done.
Any thoughts? Cookies if you got this far!
