I need a little feedback about my trauma!
Friday evening I was cleaning out two of my guinea pigs. I popped them on the sofa, where they proceeded to hoon about and play. I have videos, very cute. My boyfriend sat with them to keep an eye. I'd just about finished when the takeaway delivery man knocked on the door. One of my pigs, Bilbo, took this as a cue to tear down the sofa, leap onto the arm of the chair (it's really high!)... And jump off.
I heard my boyfriend shout and turned my head just in time to see my pig faceplant onto the wooden floor next to me from a good three foot height. He then scrambled under the hutch, where he became stuck.
I managed to extract him with a little squashing and folding and held him up, to find his mouth was all bloody :'(. I took him into the bathroom in a panic to wash him up and see what was wrong but I could hear his breath and it sounded really funny, sort of a clicky gurgle :'(.
Straight onto the phone to the emergency vets, pigs thrown in car, quickest drive across Edinburgh I have ever done. I arrived in a complete state, I was so worried about him :(.
Amazingly, after being seen by the vet it seems all his bones etc are intact, all he has done is split his lip and knock one of his teeth out :(. Tooth was hanging out so was pulled, and he had painkillers and was sent on his way.
I, on the other hand, may have had a minor heart attack.
Home to a cold takeaway I had no appetite for and I have now been watching the pig, who seems completely fine, like a hawk for two days. I also now possess a guinea pig tooth.

He is having a little trouble eating, it's his top tooth broken off right at the base. I have seen him drink sp I know he can, and I have seen him get biscuits from the bowl. He seems to be doing fine with hay. He didn't manage his cucumber until I pulled bits out of the middle and fed them to him. I will start grating his veg and feeding it to him separately tomorrow, does anyone have any further ideas of how to make him happier? He has his follow up check and weigh either tomorrow or ties with the vet to see how he is doing.

Hi, one of my pigs had a tooth break off due to it being deformed from an abscess. I was concerned about the other teeth growing uneven as they wouldn't have anything to rub against however I actually gave her lots of things to chew on such as fruit sticks and this actually helped keep all her teeth in check until the broken one grew back.
So really my advice is just make sure he has something to wear down his teeth long term and of course some soft food in the first day or so as I am sure it will be a bit painful to eat to start with.
I hope he recovers well.

Blimey what a traumatic time for you all. Bilbo's tooth should grown back and be back to normal in about 3-4 weeks if I remember rightly from when Gerry snapped his tooth being rather enthusiastic with some corn on the cob! He may find it easier if you hold strips of lettuce while he's eating it so he's got some resistance. Grate carrots and mix it with some critical care or you can mush up some pellets with warm water then leave it to cool.
Cucumber skin can be hard to eat but the soft centre should be ok. Herbs like parsley and corriander are usually ok as well because of the long stem, they can get it to their back molars to chew on, again you might have to hold it to help.
The other teeth shouldn't need any filing, they will change shape and length but as long as he's still eating they will right themselves once the other one has grown back.
