Hi all. On Friday I very sadly lost one my boar pair. He was poorly and had to be helped over the bridge, but he’s unfortunately left my other boy behind. He is only 2 years old and I don’t want him to be alone for the remainder of his life, as I want to put his needs first.
I feel as though it’s too soon to get another piggie as I don’t want to feel like I’m ‘moving on’ too quickly, but I know this is selfish of me as I need to consider my piggies welfare before my own.
Paul (remaining piggie) seems to be doing fine, he is still eating, drinking, wheeking and running around, but I know nothing can compare to him having his own companion and especially with winter around the corner he needs another snuggle buddy.

How do I go about this? How long can I wait before re-bonding him or does it need to be done ASAP? Do I bond him with a younger boy or find one that’s closer to his age?
Thanks all x

Hey, I'm so sorry about your loss of your other Piggy. If you can, maybe you can find a piggy breeder or find an owner with an unwanted guinea pig and see if you can maybe find the right one to company Paul. You can find websites and articles on the web on how to bond new guinea pigs and what's best. I'm sorry that I'm not a big help! Again, very sorry for the loss of your piggy! I hope you can the right buddy for paul soon!

This is a pro rescue forum and do not advocate the use of breeders. Please refrain from suggesting such thoughts.

Age is not always important on a new bond it depends on the character of your piggy. Since your piggy doesn’t appear to be badly affected with the loss go right away n ahead with finding a new mate. RSPCA or local rescues can help with bonding. If you go alone to the rescue locator and make contact they will help you.
I’ve travelled to two rescues from this site and both were experienced in the bonding process and successful.
We have lots of information on this forum to help you.
Sorry for your loss. X
