Hi all,
As I have mentioned before, I have had my boys neutered and I have paired them up with the girls already as I was so worried cos they seemed so lonely. Jake and Sophie seem fine and are always snuggled together in one pigloo. Treacle and Scruffy seem to keep themselves to themselves and stop in seperate pigloos - I'm not sure whether this is cos they don't get on or cos they're too big to fit in a pigloo together. But they have one pigloo on the top floor and one on the bottom as two won't fit in the sleeping compartment. So my questions are....
1. Does anyone think Scruffy might be missing Sophie as they'd been together for four months
2. Could it be that Scruffy and Treacle don't really like each other
3. Would their sleeping compartment be warm enough without the pigloo but with loads of hay (hutch is inside a presently unheated garage) to enable them to sleep together
Also, both pairs are in double storey hutches and there's only Treacle who has worked out how to get up and down the ramp - will they work this out for themselves? I've tried putting food up and down and on the ramp but they still don't use them!
Hi
[colorr]Firstly, not sur whn you ha your boys nutr, but o you ralis that you shoul kp thm away from th girls for 3 wks (som[COLOR=Black] p[COLOR=Black]opl[COLOR=Black] say 2 w[COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black]ks) as although th[COLOR=Black]y hav[COLOR=Black] b[COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black]n n[COLOR=Black]ut[COLOR=Black]r[COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black], th[COLOR=Black]y can "stor[COLOR=Black]" sp[COLOR=Black]rm an[COLOR=Black] still g[COLOR=Black]t th[COLOR=Black] girls pr[COLOR=Black]gnant. Just thought this might b[COLOR=Black] r[COLOR=Black]l[COLOR=Black]vant, but mayb[COLOR=Black] not!In answr to your qu[COLOR=Black]stions:
1. Y[COLOR=Black]s it is mor[COLOR=Black] than possibl[COLOR=Black] that th[COLOR=Black] girls will b[COLOR=Black] missing [COLOR=Black]ach oth[COLOR=Black]r as th[COLOR=Black]y will hav[COLOR=Black] form[COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black] a bon[COLOR=Black]. How[COLOR=Black]v[COLOR=Black]r, giv[COLOR=Black]n tim[COLOR=Black] th[COLOR=Black]y shoul[COLOR=Black] b[COLOR=Black]com[COLOR=Black] clos[COLOR=Black] to th[COLOR=Black] boys th[COLOR=Black]y now liv[COLOR=Black] with.
2. Scruffy an[COLOR=Black] Tr[COLOR=Black]acl[COLOR=Black] may just b[COLOR=Black] taking long[COLOR=Black]r to bon[COLOR=Black]. Som[COLOR=Black] pairs ar[COLOR=Black] v[COLOR=Black]ry clos[COLOR=Black], oth[COLOR=Black]rs mor[COLOR=Black] aloof, it [COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black]p[COLOR=Black]n[COLOR=Black]s, lik[COLOR=Black] us, on th[COLOR=Black]ir t[COLOR=Black]mp[COLOR=Black]ram[COLOR=Black]nt.
3. Y[COLOR=Black]s, th[COLOR=Black] pigloo coul[COLOR=Black] b[COLOR=Black] r[COLOR=Black]mov[COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black] an[COLOR=Black] th[COLOR=Black]y will lik[COLOR=Black]ly snuggl[COLOR=Black] up tog[COLOR=Black]th[COLOR=Black]r.
As for th[COLOR=Black] ramp, th[COLOR=Black]y will probably work out how to us[COLOR=Black] it, but k[COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black]p an [COLOR=Black]y[COLOR=Black] on things an[COLOR=Black] mak[COLOR=Black] sur[COLOR=Black] th[COLOR=Black] ramp is not too st[COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black]p an[COLOR=Black] k[COLOR=Black][COLOR=Black]p saf[COLOR=Black]ty issu[COLOR=Black]s in min[COLOR=Black].
Hop[COLOR=Black] that h[COLOR=Black]lp, any oth[COLOR=Black]r qu[COLOR=Black]stions, just ask
[COLOR=Black]bviously, th[COLOR=Black]s[COLOR=Black] ar[COLOR=Black] just my thoughts on this.
1. Yes, they may be missing each other. I agree with Barbara that they will probably form a bond with their new cage mates in the end. The alternative would be to have both girls with one boy and then adopt another little piggy to keep the other boy company
2. Mine are funny when it comes to snuggling up together. Sometimes they do, but quite often they all sleep separatly (I have 3 bedding boxes just in case they all want one each!). I don't really worry about it - it is there choice and they all get on fine.
3. If they have plenty of hay then I think they will probably be fine without the pigloo, but I would make sure there is a 2nd warm place for sleeping just in case they still want to sleep apart.
Ramp - My new adopted piggy Trixie hasn't figured it out but the other two did after a couple of days. Putting food going up does help. In my case, Tilly did it first and then Tia followed the 2nd time she did it. Like I said - Trixie hasn't a clue at the moment but I'm sure she'll get there! As long as it is safe then I am sure they will get there in the end. I guess at the moment they are happy on the ground floor and have no reason to go up there!
Thank you again. I know I ask a lot of questions but I'm so scared of doing something that is wrong for them. I just had them all out for floor time and I made an attempt to trim Scruffy's claws - but she squeaked so I think I did something wrong! I'm going to take her to the vets and get them to show me, lol! :-\
Getting the vet to show you is a really good idea - that is what I did when I got my first piggy. Saying that, Tia makes such a noise when I do hers - sometimes I haven't actually started and she is squealing! Piggys are very vocal complainers and sometimes you would think that you were torturing them with the fuss they can make!
