Out on the grass for the first time this year - hoping they might forgive me the vet trip after this!

What a run of bad luck you are having. I often wish I'd studied harder and trained to be a vet, looks like that is where all the money ism( or where it goes in our house anyway)!

Hey. Hope your piggie is doing well. Didn't read all the posts. Are you using a probiotic with the antibiotics? Mine had to be on baytril for quite a long time. I bought a pot of probiotics and sprinkled a pinch-full on some veg for him an hour after he had his antibiotics. It helps to stop them getting an upset tum from antibiotics. Sorry if this was already mentioned.

I am pleased that Cash is feeling better but sorry to hear about Tango :( Emma has been prescribed Chloramphenicol eyedrops too but 6 to 8 times a day along with baytril and fibreplex :( Fingers crossed for Tango x

Thanks for the good wishes folks!
@Jeniva thanks for the pro-biotic tip but Cash didn't have any tummy trouble on the baytril, nothing stops him pooing apparently!

@Claire W - eye things are so traumatising for everyone involved! This is the second time he's had something in there, the first time was the night before we went to my parents for Christmas(!) but luckily that time we caught it as soon as it happened and got it out ourselves before any damage was done. As my vet said this morning "Guineas just have no concern for the health of their eyes!"
How are you thinking of dealing with the multiple doses of the drops?

It is very traumatising :( I'm not sure how to handle the amount given. I at currently at home during the day so I guess I shall be giving it every few hours.

Emma's eye looks really sore tonight :(

Good luck with Tango x

Aww bless Cash and Tango, what a stressful day. Hope you can find out what the lump is and you get good news regarding it also hope the drops do the job on Tango's eye. All comes at once eh? Lots of healing vibes to both your stunning little men (I made your photo bigger of them) x

Thank you for the mod jiggery-pokery! I'm only using the phone today so couldn't figure a better way to add the picture.

Don't [expletive] believe it. Got home to find an eye that had previously been clearing up looking all red and sore again!
:mal::td::(
There's a bit of hay in it again, right in the corner at the ear side where the original bit was. Don't know if it's the original culprit resurfacing or we've just had terrible luck and it's a new bit.

Almost got it out earlier so going to have another go after they've been out for floor time. I just need two more hands and id have it out in seconds! Tried to get Daddypig to assist but it's hard for us both to see and hold at the same time!

Well the hay looks like it's disappeared (again?!) but eye looks as sore as it was originally.

This is playing havoc with their dominance/hierarchy too! With them both having been in and out of the wars it's mounting and rumblestrut central! I don't think even they know who's boss anymore!

On a more positive note Cash weighed in at 1126g today which is the most he's weighed since his initial weight loss in December. So that's something.

Well the good news is that Tango got the all clear from the vet and his eye is fully healed. Those eye drops are miracle workers!

On the other hand we're still not really any closer to finding out what's wrong with Cash.

The results of his lump biopsy aren't that conclusive. Nothing cancerous yet but there is sign of cell change which could be a precursor to it. Results could also indicate it's just a cyst. They think if it's not just a cyst then could be some sort of thyroid related tumour.

It has also got bigger since the sample was drained from it last week, and it's now a bit larger than it was originally.

So since he is on an up in terms of weight gain, isn't that old (around 3 years) and is still chirpy in himself we're going to go for surgery, get it analysed and then go from there. The lump is quite loose under the skin and doesn't feel it's fused onto anything so it should be quite a straight forward procedure.

A bit worrying but fingers crossed we'll get to the bottom of this.

Sounds Just like Haven. After the biopsy...hers doubled in size after it was drained. Worty asking for Vidalta if they are thinking Thyroid as that med helps keep the cyst down in size. After the op he may not need to meds. Haven is not in any meds at the moment for her thyroid...but may be again at a later date.

Poor you and cash. I can totally sympathise....since last summer all its been is worry and vet visits... Thibgs are so much better for Haven since the op x

Great news that Tango has been given the all clear. Even though they have to be applied so often, I too agree about those eye drops.

I'm sorry that you are no further along with Cash but I have my fingers firmly crossed for him x

Just got news that Cash passed on completely unexpectedly as Anne was putting the last stitch in.

He was so chirpy and happy this morning! I'm crushed.
Absolutely crushed.

:bye:

May peace and happiness be with the darling over rainbow bridge; devastating news so sorry for your loss xxxxx

Do I let tango see Cash's body at the vets before we go home?
Sorry for brusqueness, can't handle much

I am so sorry to read this.

Sorry I have got to this post late... Yes if you can let Tango see Cash's body.

Huge hugs, what an awful shock

x

Thanks. Unfortunately I decided to not show Tango - thought it might be a bit too 'vetty' and upsetting for him. Seems to be coping ok so far apart from a heart breaking search of the cage when we got home :(

Oh no hun i am so sorry to hear this :-(. ((hugs)) what a total shock for you. I am so sorry for your loss. I am in total shock....was going to PM you this evening. X I am here if you need me x
