We have had them both for just over a week now, They were brill together no fighting ect Fudge was trying to mount Mozni but it would phase out after a minute or two. But just the last 2/3 days every time Fudge goes near Moz he does this thing where he sort of growls/Purs with his back raised then lashes at Fudge.

As you can imagine we have grown very fond of both of them and it's very uncomfortable to see them fight (Gets pretty nasty) it's as if Fudge is scared now he stays out of the hide out in the cage and when we put them in the run he stays well away hidden but when he does get excited and Popcorns Moz attacks him.

Any suggestions as to what we should do? Do we leave them to it? Ive just had Fudge out and he had Two tiny scabs on his neck like it's been pierced with a bite?

Any advice much appreciated

Sorry admin I first posted in the wrong section.

That cage is too small for two male guinea pigs especially as they are hitting the hormonal stage which they are now. Do they fight when they are in the run? Male guinea pigs can be tricky some don't make it to adulthood as friends, there are no guarantees when the hormones hit.

That seems quite small - I think the minimum hutch size for 2 piggies is 4ft x 2ft = 122cm x 61cm. I don't think you would count the raised area in that so your cage is a bit on the small size. Even if that isn't the problem at the moment it is likely to cause problems as they get bigger, particularly with boars who need as much space as possible. Pet shops seem to have this really irresponsible habit of just trying to sell things for any purpose rather than making sure you have the right equipment for the welfare of your pets!

I thought it was pretty small, There is one for £80 maybe we should get that one? they do fight but not all of the time in the run, Moz seems to be the one that runs around and plays and Fudge just comes out to eat or after we put him back he popcorns then Moz starts to get angry.

So should we leave them to it? Or should we buy two separate cages? It's hard because it really is uncomfortable when Moz attacks Fudge

I think I have made a mistake with the size of the cage. It is the larger one which was £80

120cm? If they are fighting then you need to monitor them, if they are drawing blood then you might need to look at separating them. Males need to establish an hierarchy but there is a fine line between small spats and fighting. Is there anything that sets the squabbling off?

As soon as Fudge moves or goes near Moz that start or if Moz wanders near him he will start it.

I just measured the cage it is 94cm I said to the girls as well that it looked small! But she said it was fine for two adult guinea pigs. Obviously having not owned them before I trusted that she would know what we needed. We are going to get the Larger cage! Which we should have gone with our first instincts and got in the first place.

Fudge has changed so much since Moz started attacking him, He is really cuddly love to cuddle into you but as soon as they are separated and Moz is left alone he starts squealing so loud!I will keep an eye on them. I'm a little concerned that Fudge has two little scabs on his neck we are both out at work in the day so we don't see exactly what there up to when we are out.

try little pet warehouse I have recently got 120cm cage from there for £40 a lot cheaper then pets at home or zoo plus is also good too. They will sell you what they can at P@H sadly. I Would watch them closely if they are fighting then you need to think about separating them. Is there anything that sets it off more like food for example?

When we give them food they are good as gold! They grab a piece and chomp away then they get all excited and pop corn that's when it starts to kick off,I will keep an eye on them if it carries on then I will separate them. I will check the stores out over the weekend :)

You may like to consider making a c and c cage. You can make it any size you like and if you make it big enough you will not have to worry about giving floor time everyday.

Please see if you have your receipt and try to take the cage back, people really need to go back to these places and tell them the cage is inadequate!

have a look on both the commercial cages thread and the C and C thread on the housing board, you can find lots of ideas there! it is a difficult decision good luck
