Hi Guys.
Have had a horrible week with the loss of my 5 year old Piggy Liberty. ... i was then left with 2 piggys.. Harmony 7 and Honor 3.
Harmony then developed a bad chest Over night and was diagnosed with Pneumonia. Sadly Harmony very went quickly down hill and was euthanised yesterday at the vets :( . I am now left with 1 piggy Honor. Honor seems fine in herself heath wise.. but vet has given her precautionary antibiotics just to make sure she doesn't have anything.
Honor aged 3 has taken it all surprisingly well considering she has lost her 2 cage mates in about 4 days.
I just wondered when the time comes (once i am sure Honor is OK etc) what aged piggy is best to introduce to her and also is getting 1 piggy or 2 better?
I have never done Guinea pig introductions before so am a little nervous although have done many rat and rabbit introductions over the years.
As i speak Honor is trotting round her cage eating her favorite treat of basil. i just don't want Honor being lonely as she has always been such a social piggy. I am just thankful she is OK.
Any advice is appreciated. I thank you now in advance.

I am very sorry for your losses - that must have come as such a shock!

The best way of finding one or several new friends for Honor (and getting around the bonding problem) is by taking her to a good rescue for a day of dating likely candidates; this can include neutered boars, single sows or sow pairs. The bonding happens at the rescue under expert supervision - but Honor is the one to decide who she is happiest with!

I have done this repeatedly with with bereaved piggies of mine and always got a very loving friendship out of it. Piggies can be very picky as to who they click with. I have usually come home with a completely different piggy than I expected to!

Your closest recommendable rescue that offers this service is Wheek and Squeak in Bishops Waltham near Southampton, so not very far from you.

Aw, I'm so sorry *hugs* :(
Dating via a rescue as Wiebke says is the best option - I took a little sow earlier this year, she came home with two little buddies and they get along famously. Very comical trio as they chase each other and play peek-a-boo through the hideys, couldn't have a better match :))
Good luck x>>

Thanks for the replies. Yep i will be looking into a rescue piggy (or two). Just want to make sure Honor stays happy and healthy.
Thank you both :)

An update on Honor.. she has been seemingly fine.. until last night she appeared to have a bubbly chest. Been to the vets first thing and she is now on Septrin for 10 days as the vet says she dose have a slight crackly chest on her left hand side. In her self she is doing great though.. eating great... running around etc.. so have faith in honor she will get better soon. So the hunt for a new friend will be held off till i am sure she is clear of any medical problems.
In the mean time and just trying to keep her as happy and stimulated as possible. Will be so glad when she is better and can get her a new friend.
