Hello everyone :)

I need some advice ...

I am looking to open a pet shop in my area, this decision was on impuls and will need a lot of thought I know!

But I think it could be a great idea.

Does anyone on here own a business or have selling experience also help with suppliers would be great too as I'm am unsure of where to look.

I am only 18 so yoo may think this is a baad idea but I believe I can do it or even make an attempt.

And advice would be great thank yoo in advance

can i just make one request?
please don't sell animals as there are enough in rescues already instead just supply accessories

To be honest I don't know how easy it will be to run an ethical pet shop and keep it making money. So many of them sell toys and treats that are not good and hutches/cages that are too small.
You could sell cosies and stuff made by people on here. You could offer a boarding service for small animals. Market yourself as following RSPCA guidelines for sizes of cages that you might sell. Advertise rescues. Only sell books that are correct, so many are wrong and encourage breeding. Do lots of research in your area to find out where people buy pet supplies from. Find out about support for small businesses in your area. Research wholesalers and check prices in existing local pet shops to see if you would make much money.

You could always start online and branch out once you've got some great suppliers and understanding of who to work with (and who not to work with!) There are so many wonderful creative people who would no doubt be happy to work with a trustworthy, ethical store, online or on the street.
Plus you'll have a customer base and the word will be out! :) When word spreads, it's a wonderous thing :)

Yeah I have been working on a document today to hand out about the company I plan to run also emailed supplies see what happens... Fingers crossed

Also online is a good place to start :D
