Taken my pig the vet today as not been him self not eating as much and noticed was missing a tooth and remaining tooth over grown, His 7 yrs old. The vet cut his over grown tooth down, and filled the broken one, gave him an injection for pain relief. This was 9am today, sines he hasn’t pooped and is extreamly lethargic, I have been syringe feeding him and water every 1.5 hrs mixed with probiotic vit c, he licks it up from around his mouth. But he hasn’t been toilet all day, I called the vets back and they just suggested doing what I’m doing. Or bring him in to be hospitalised but they didn’t recommend because obviously will stress him. When he walks he is so slow and wobbly, just wants to sit in his sticks and do nothing. Since the vets he has been like this. But don’t see how his teeth being sorted could cause so much issue.

Do you know where the tooth went? If not he may have accidentally swallowed it, it isn't common but my Piggie had swallowed a tooth.:no:hope he gets better anyway!

No, I noticed his tooth was missing yesterday hense took him vets this morning, but since the vets his gone downhill as in not eating food drinking or toilet. And very weak, and lethargic. Could this be to do with his pain relief injection?

Do you know what the pain relief injection was? Vetergesic can make them very flat and lethargic. Are you syringe feeding? You need to keep food going through him xx
The injection was LOXICOM she said injection gets in system faster and then gave us the bottle to give 24hrs later

The poo output is 1-2 days behind the the intake. What you are seeing now is how he was before you started feeding.
Please make sure that you get in 40-60 ml in over the course of 24 hours, or as close as you can come. The poo output should regulate in a few days.

I assume that your boy is reacting to the anaesthestic. All you can do is to keep it going around the clock, the more often the less you get into him with each feeding session and hopefully make all the difference with your care! Piggies rarely eat by themselves after dental treatment unless they are in the hands of very vet who is very experienced with dental care.

Saturday he had a snotty nose, took him the vets and they gave him sulfatrim he only had 3 syringes of this and his nose cleared up this is when I noticed the tooth when I last syringed him, then from my first feed I took him the vets today 9am for his teeth. And since gone down hill. I’m just hoping his like this because of injection and his had a stressful day. Just worried his not pooping at all

Ok. His been getting syringed water every hour or so. Is there any thing specific I could blend for him food wise, so far I have been using pellets water cucumber red pepper and that probiotic vit c blended and then syringe him.

If you can order some more fibre based recovery food product like Critical Care or Emeraid, that would be better for his guts, especially if you have to support feed over a longer period or more often in view of his dental issues.
Please be aware that recovery foods do contain vitamin C and that veg should only make about 10% of a normal diet. 80% is hay, and you need to mainly replace that. What the guts need to keep going is as much fibre as possible.

Ok for the time being I’ll blend him some hay up with it for the fibre. Thanks for the advice I’ll keep you updated

Pellets will do for a few days until any recovery care arrives. If a piggy of mine is not keen on the taste of any recovery food (not all are) I just serve a mix of familiar pellets and recovery care; that often goes down better.

When a piggy is completely off its food, the rule is - whatever works and goes in to keep it going and through the rough patch! ;)

Very sad news, He didn’t make it through the night passed away around 3am, woke up 2am to feed him and he had no movement just slowly breathing so I stroked him and he was relaxed and just passed away.....

Very sorry to hear you lost your boy, but it sounds like you did everything possible and that his passing was peaceful.

Thank you, I’m gutted had him 7 years his outlived 4 friends, was such a friendly confident pig, would sit on mine and the misses lap every night and happily watch tv. he couldn’t even stand I think his body was shutting down. His passing was very relaxed he just literally went to sleep bless him...

I am so sorry for the loss of your piggy. You did all you could, huge hugs to you

Sleep well little one
