I'm suffering from a bit of a dilema at the moment. Basically, at the place that i work, people are very aware that i own piggies and love pets as I'm always talking about them and what ive brought them etc.
Well, a fellow colleague, one i must admit i have had a few run ins with approached me to say she was considering buying a guineapig for her children and that her husband was going to build a hutch. The first thing i said was to consider getting a pig from a rescue instead as they're as many abandoned that need new homes, (i always give this speech, no matter who the person). I also told her that it wouldnt be fair to just have a lone guineapig as they crave social interaction with other pigs, so to consider getting a bonded pair. She went on to say she only wanted one. I pushed it further and said to her that before she decided to get some, she should do her research, and think what would happen if the children lose interest, which happens so often. She wrote off what i was saying due to me not liking her. I assured her this wasnt the case and that it was due to so many people taking on animals they then realise they cant look after.
Anyway, this was a few weeks ago and she's now approached me asking for some rescue telephone numbers. I know what this woman is like and I'm pretty certain that the children and her will get bored of the pets, or that they will just exist rather than get the pampering that piggies deserve. I'm tempted to say that the rescues i know of are currently pigless, but at the same time i dont want to deny some piggies the chance of a new home?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do? Sorry for the long post.
