I used to feed my piggies on the guinea pig supa excel nuggets which they didn't seem overly keen on and i found it abit expensive for something they didnt really like as it was costing me almost £19 for a 10kg sack that wasn't lasting even 2 weeks.
I have now put them on the Pets at Home Museli which they seem to seem to like and don't leave anything. I'm just really concerned as i have since read the reviews on here and am concerned about the colouring and high protin.

Can someone please advise me on which food is the piggies will love and is nutritionally good for them.
Any advice appreciated.
ps they get veg, hay and dried grass everyday aswell.

Sorry, I can't really help when it comes to muesli as I give my lot nuggets to stop them picking at it and just eatting the bits that they like.

There are reviews at the top of this food section where members have given their views on various different kinds/brands of food - you might find them helpful.

If you refer to feed a museli mix as opposed to a pellet food, Chudleigh `rabbit royale` is the best type. I know of a couple of rescues that use it and it is fine for guineas. Not sure where you buy it from though as they don't sell it in pets at home!

i'm so glad you started this thread as i am in the same situation. they have been on the p@h museli for a couple of months , and i have just read the reviews on it. i have found my piggies have become a bit run down since they have been on it. i have just bought the p@h nuggets. I checked the nutrtional side against the supa excel and they are the samewould also be interested in what replies you get.

I used to use the supa guinea excel and my lot loved it. When my guineas first came to me at various stages, they were on gerty guinea and I swapped them slowly to supa excel by mixing the two together and gradually reducing the ratio of gerty to excel. Often, if you just change straight over, they wont eat it.
I have also started using pets at home nuggests only because I could no longer get the big bags of excel, the small bags were not cost effective.

hi, i'm also glad this thread was started, i've been ready through the reviews of the different types of food and found i was so confused with the choice available, and of course each piggies personal preference!

my babies came to me with a bag of food they had been eating so i had to introduce their new food a bit at a time.

I'm now also feeding them the pets at home nuggets and they seem happy with it, again though, i was wanting to make sure it was nutritionally good enough for them.

Pets at Home Nuggets are very similar to Excel (I think they are made by the same firm) so they are ok to feed. I feed excel. 2 of my girls are also on Wagg as they had mites and lost weight so it was just to provide extra help for them but they aren't over keen.

I would keep on with the pellets they will eat them when hungry. Just be a little stricter perhaps. Don't let them rule you, easier said than done! :D

How many pigs do you have? If you're getting through a 10kg sack in less than 2 weeks you must have a shed full!

I feed mine on the P@H nuggets and they really like it, and more importantly they're doing really well on it.

Dry food is really a very minor part of their diet and some GP owners do not feed dry mix at all, preferring their guineas to eat more hay! Very good quality hay is the most important with a good variety of low calcium vegetables and unlimited grass in the spring summer months second . A handful of pellets per pig per day is adequate.

i have 14 very greedy little piggies! I used to give them a small cup in a morning and evening per pig. Its amazing how quick it goes down i used to have to order a couple of sacks at a time cos i was constantly at the pet shop!

I have found the p@h museli 15kg sack lasted me a month, so a lot longer than the excel.

Does anyone have any thought on the Wagg Optimum Guinea Pig as i have just read some really good reviews on a website?
