hi all
My vet and i are a little puzzled as my fozzie bear appears to be run down yet he is eating extremely well. He suffered a jaw abscess in december which he full recovered from within weeks. Hes 3 years old and seems otherwise healthy.his symptoms:

1. He lost alot of weight through the llness and went down to 850gm from 1200gms. since his recovery he has only gained 70gms in around 6 weeks and still feel quite boney at the rump although has a nice fat belly. he's always the first out for food and eats very well and no problems with his jaw. we expected him to have put alot more weight back on by now.
2.His fur has also started looking different and looks dull. He's a teddy fur so harder to tell but it has got alot thinner although no bald patches or soreness.
3. he usually lives outdoors and has been living indoors since his illness and i wondered if his fur was thinning due to being alot warmer.
4. when his two friends were checked at vets today it was found they have lice, although showed no symtoms but could see them under the microscope. strange thing is we could not see any on fozzy although we did see what looked like possibly a couple of eggs.

they are now all being treated with ivermectin injections but my main worry is that fozzy problems is something deeper.
any thoughts?

I wouldn't expect his coat to thin like that from being indoors. What are you feeding him on? Have you watched him closely when eating? We had a pig taking food into his mouth after removal of abscess from his neck but not chewing properly so it was impacting in his mouth & being dropped out again partly chewed. Just worth a thought...

I would say your other choices are to go more diagnostic such as x-ray, bloods etc but that might be a bit invasive for a recovering pig or try supplementing his diet by hand-feeding to see if that will get weight back on. Hand feeding is not super fun either though!

Did he have antibiotics after surgery? If so did you give a probiotic such as Bio-Lapis? If not, that might be worth a try as an easy & non-invasive thing to get digestive system fully functioning again.

Is your guinea pooing normal poos?

Best wishes to you & your piggies, I have a soft spot for teddies :)
