Hi this is the first time i've posted and am looking for some advice.

I've had my two piggies for 6 months. At first because the weather wasnt too grand we had them in our conservatory in their outdoor hutch. Since the summer they have been in the hutch which was moved outside and I pop them into their run during the day.

Hubby wants to put the hutch in the garage during the winter but i've said no its far to dark & miserable in there for them!

I'm looking at moving them back into the conservatory (which we dont really use as a room much) during the winter months but I dont want to put the outdoor hutch in there as its got a bit weather beaten.

I'm looking at an indoor cage but am confused as there are so many. I obviously need a large one as I have two adult guinea pigs but there are some which are quite large and have an 'upstairs'. Is it worth investing in one of those, i've just read on another site that guinea pigs in general wont use the upper floor area and its best to go for one level.

Help i'm confused!

Hi there! :) The minimum cage size (according to the RSPCA) for an indoor cage for a pair of piggies is 120cmx60cms, so this rules out alot of 100cm cages currently being sold as piggy cages (that alone should hopefully narrow down your choices) Bigger is always better, and theres nothing wrong with having a second level but atleast one of the levels must be the 120x60 recomended size because piggies run laps to keep fit (and they cant do this up and down the ladder :) )

Another option to consider is a C&C cage, have you heard about/considered this? :)

think zooplus have a big sale on right now! but beware sometimes their cages come damaged.... however their customer service is great and they will sort it for you should that be the case! good luck :)

I dont know where you live but for me it was more expensive to make a c&c cage. I use two Midwest Guinea Habitats connected, and i dont use the dividers so they have more room :)

Thanks all for your advice.

I'm new to guinea pig parenting so never heard of C&C? Will google!

For two pigs a c&c would be perfect however if like me and your limited for room why not try a ferplast 120? Or the bigger 140? Not cheap but I'm sure you can pick one up on ebay .. Mine is the 120 and should have cost me £120 but i got it off gumtre website and paid £40 and its as new.. With indoor cages such as ferplast they need a free run around a room in your home for an hour or so a day in winter if conditions outside are to harsh for them to go in outdoor run as they are big enough dont get me wrong but i wouldnt want to be cooped up allday. But my advise would be a c&c id love one but my flats tiny i dont have room :'(

I have one boy piggy and was looking at these cages on amazon because he does not have enough room to run for enough exercise in his current cage due to him growing so fast. He should be almost a year old now so he is full grown and this is a bigger cage than his first but he still does not have enough room to actually run with his food dishes in there. How are these cages? I was thinking of getting a friend for my piggy (need to convince my boyfriend though hehe) so would 1 cage be big enough for 2 or just 1?

Oh my the Midwest habitats are amazing!! Never seen those before how clever! And so much better yet cheaper than ferplast!

How big is 8foot squared in comparison to ferplast 120? Is it he same?

Need some advice.

From what I see online the Midwest Habitats and the C&C cages look great and would be ideal for our conservatory but I see that most dont have a solid flooring only a cardboardy looking liner on the Midwest and I see that alot of people use fleece for the C&C.

What about wee & poop? Dont these end up soaking through to the main flooring?

For a c&c most people use correx as a base which is quite thick so it doesn't let wee to soak through. Here's a link: http://www.teacratepackaging.co.uk/correx-board. Hopefully someone else who actually has a c&c will come along and explain it in more detail!

If you put a cheap shower curtain down first nothing should soak through.

Altho with c&c you can use correx which is wipeable..

I am newer to the C&C cages too but have been looking into them a lot because I am thinking of making one myself. With the C&C cages the floor is made with a type of plastic so the pee and poops wont soak through:) With the Midwest cages they have a canvas bottom but that kind of canvas I would assume is more on the plasticy side than the type of canvas fabric they would use for different purses and things. So with those cages you shouldn't have a problem with pee going through the bottom unless a piggy poked a hole in the canvas of the Midwest cage.

Hope this helped!:)

I just looked up the dimensions on the ferplast 120 cage and it is about 6 square feet. The Midwest habitat is about 8 square feet. I hope this helps you guys with the comparison of how the dimensions are different. :)

Sorry for two post right after another they were addressing different things.:)

I have this one for 2 of my boys. Bought it in jolleyes for £99.
I put carpet on the ladder and cut down a cardboard box to line the top level.
The piggies love it and nearly always go upstairs to bed at night as it's nice and cozy.
Plenty of room for 2 pigloos on the bottom level too.
When i first put them in this cage, i used to feed them on the upper level so they soon got used to using the ladder.
I don't have a stand, but it is on a table, which makes it perfect height to lean through the main door to clean it out.

Thanks all I think we'll go for the c&c then we can build it to go nicely in the conservatory.

Winnie-Woo your c&c cage looks great but just a quick question, you have used the correx but does the piggies wee run through the gaps?

no because there are no gaps check this web site it shows you how to make the CC cages and cut the correx :)

Id say you would need 2. They are easy to connect :)

I believe the midwest is slightly bigger

My C&C cage

I put mine on top of two units from Ikea so I had tidy storage for all the piggy (and house bunny) stuff. It works well and looks pretty good.
