Hi,

My two pig are currently living separately until my boar has healed from his castration ect ... and are living in a Nero 3 each.

These are nowhere near ideal in size and I know that. They were quick fix cages to tide us over for a few weeks.

I want to upgrade to a bigger cage and would appreciate recommendations.

(They are inside piggies)

I will say now that I am considering a C&C cage set up but want to avoid this if possible due needing something more secure with having two lurcher dogs in the house. Call me vain, I am also not keen on the look of the C&C cages in my living room. Thirdly, I am struggling for ideas of how to raise these off the ground. I have however not totally dismissed the idea of this.

I have looked at the Nero 4 and also the Ferplast 140 but have heard some negative reviews of the latter due to access and the texture of the tray.

I like the idea of multilevel to allow maximum room possible so advice on this also. In your experience what steepness of ramps and height of jumps can most pigs manage?

My 2 pigs are the first pigs I have owned as an adult so all advice welcome. (I kept pigs growing up but the were outside in a hutch and run)

Thanks in advance.

A nero 3 is fine for each of them at the moment, maybe once she has been confirmed not pregnant or has littered and he's recovered from his op plus the extra time, you could sell the 2 cages and put the money towards a new one?

I like the Nero 4, it's spacious and you can buy a stand to raise it off the ground, which I think looks smart and also makes the pigs less skittish if they're kept at that sort of height.

Some pigs will use ramps and some won't - the Nero 4 here comes with a kind of house thing with steps up it and a food bowl on the roof - none of mine have ever used this.

If you were to make a second level with correx and cable ties, the ramp should be made of something non-slip - such as wood with little struts across or even covered in carpet for grip?

Also I notice one of your lovely pigs is an Abby - as a breed they seem much more likely to climb and jump up on stuff (in my experience) so he might enjoy the second level and that makes your little girl more likely to follow.

Thanks guys.

Money isn't the issue really. and I will certainly be keeping one of the Nero 3's incase I need a spare cage around.

I like the fact the Neros can be raised on stands. I have one Nero 3 on a stand with the other cage on top of that.

The Nero 3 also has the house with platform and bowl on roof and both mine use it already and now you say it, I must admit Lenny (the Abby) jumps up and down more on this anyway, but my girlie does use it no problem anyway.

I kind of like the look of this C&C set up ... but I would need to enclose it because of the dogs and would need to raise it off the floor too and wouldn't be sure how to do this easily.

I have a nero4 & Ithink the yellow house takes up an awful lot of room.My 2 do climb on it as I put little bits of food & treats on it but they sound like fairy elephants when they jump back down! I took it out & replaced it with a box for Coco& smudge to hide in but they were digusted with it they lashed it around the cage & pooped in it. needless to say the yellow house has gone back in.

i have two of the 140 cages. I love them! there huge and the piggies faces when they get in there is hilerious. The space is great. having the doors on top is annoying though! i also find the whole wire bit is to heavy for the little plastic clips on the edge so they end up snapping, but cables ties are **** better anyway. I would recommened the 140 for size but only if you will be having them low down as otherwise getting them out requires standing on a chair! lol
