Hi all,

I had noticed the girls were scratching more than usual, but when I had a look there is absolutely nothing to see, so to be on the safe side anyway I picked up a pack of Beaphar Anti-Parasite Spot on for rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and rats. But I thought I would just check on here what everyone thinks of it before I use it on the girls. Also I wanted to know what I should do about dosage, because it says use 1 pipette on pig up to 750g, and 2 pipettes on pigs over that, my girls are all over that, but the lightest 2 are just 900g and 930g, the heaviest is 1100g. I'm not worried about Daisy my chunky monkey ^), but will 2 pipettes be a bit much for the other 2 girls?

I would be very interested to know what everyone thinks about this product and what I should do?

Thanks everyone.

Oh I forgot to say the girls are about 9 months old, I don't know if that matters!

If they have static mites from hay then they actually need bathing in an appropriate shampoo for static mites, like Lice n Easy from Gorgeous Guineas or Flea or Die shampoo, as hay mites live on the hair shaft & aren't killed by Ivermectin etc. Hopefully Suzy or someone will confirm this?

If you are shampooing leave 48 hours after treating with the topical treatment before bathing them.

To tell if they have hay mites, lift some fur up on their rump & get a little bit of sellotape & stick it to the base of the hair roots, lift gently & then look at the tape closely with a microscope if you have one or a magnifying glass. The mites will be little black things, moving slowly as they don't run like lice.

Is the beaphar one really not good? I've bought one but not used it yet, now I'm worried!

I was wondering the same thing about that product. But I just broke down and ordered from Gorgeous Guineas today. Since I can't seem to find any good guinea pig products in the US.
