Ive had a terrible scare with one of my boars, Freddie. I went to put him back in his hutch an hour ago and noticed a lump hanging out of his bottom. I took him to my Dad, who said it appeared to be his willy, which shocked me because it was hanging out and was completely round, about the size of a large grape.

We rang the emergency vet and spoke to a nurse, who took some details and went to consult a vet. The vet rang my Dad back and, although he didn't say what caused it to come out in the first place, he said the longer it's out the more it will swell.

It had started to go back in on it's own but he has advised us to sit his bits on a cold towel for a bit and then use a lubricant to gently ease it back in, and then see how he goes.

He's eating well, still waiting on the poo/wee front, and appears to be in no discomfort.

All I really want to know is - has anyone else experienced this before? Why would this have happened? Apologies for being...graphic :)) I'll update you on Freddie's condition and whether he has re quoted a vet visit.

Thanks for the link.

His problem doesn't quite look like the picture shown there; I'd describe it as being a 'normal' colour with no obvious signs of infection (such as weeping, puss), and kind of like a human testicle. Now that the swelling has reduced, it does look a little more like the photo in terms of wrinkle-ness (I'm sorry I can't describe it very well).

It's actually now looking a lot more normal (I'm live typing here) after the application of the cold compress. He's whiffing a bit but I can't tell if it's more than normal. And he had just pooped!

When I take him to the vets, what should I say and what treatment would I be looking to receive, as the vet gave us the impression this was not a serious problem?

Could you take a photo and pop it on here?

As for what to say to the vet, tell them what you told us! Describe what it looked like, and how it has changed over the time since you first noticed it.
