Unfortunatley yesterday I had to have my boy Blake put to sleep. He had a large bladder stone and was so weak it was too risky to operate. 8...

His cage mate Harvey (nearly 3 yrs old) is now alone, at the moment he seems ok but I hate to think of him being lonely. I'm thinking about rescuing another male, Harv isn't neutered, do rescue centers re-home single boars to live with another boar?

Any advice is appreciated, I don't want to rush I'll see how Harvey copes.
Thanks
Hannah x

Aw Hannah, so very sorry to hear of this, these flipping bladder stones are bloody cruel :o My Harley had one back in June and it was a complete breakdown time for me but luckily, he pulled through and is perfect :)
Consider getting a little boar mate for Harvey, an older piggy will bond with a little one - do you have a rescue near to you where they do boar dating and he can chose his own friend ?
Keep us posted on events and again, sorry about your boy, totally understand how you are feeling.
Hugs to you x>>

I am so sorry to hear this! I lost one of my first pair of guinea pigs after a long battle with bladder stones and ensuing problems, so I can feel for you! Once you have got a bladder stone issue, you are usually up against it. :(

The best way to find a compatible friend for Harvey is to find a rescue that allows you to bring him for a round of "boar dating", so Harvey himself can make his own choice who he gets on with. That is the best way to rebond bereaved piggies of any age; I have done it several times with great success. Through dating, you can ensure a much more stable relationship that is based on character compatibily and mutual liking.

Wheek and Squeak Rescue in Southampton has a good reputation.

Otherwise, Crawley GP Rescue also offer boar dating:

Best of luck!

sorry to hear of your loss, it is so hard when you loose a piggy.

best to take him along with you when you look for a new mate and i agree that it is much easier to bond a younger male with older otherwise it can result in one or the other piggy getting hurt.

as a rescue when i bond male piggies i always bond young with old as this is much easier and seems to work and last.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll try getting in touch with wheeks and squeaks as its only up the road. I hope Harvey can find a little friend there, he's a bit of a grump on his own x
