Nelson was very close to his companion, Freddie who died yesterday morning. Understandably, he is grieving for his beloved friend and is not himself, hiding away in his cosy. He slept in my bedroom last night (he's still here) but I was wondering what to do with him tonight?

Would he benefit from being close to the girls' cages, but without an actual cage mate, or would hearing but not being with other piggies upset him?

not sure, i think i would keep him in his familiar setting, and perhaps leave a radio on..sorry not much help x

I am really sorry to hear this. I have not had the problem of a lone piggy. I have heard a soft toy can help. But take off bits that may be a hazard. He may need a friend from a rescue centre and they can help pair up lonely piggies. x

The weather adds a whole load of extra problems. He can't stay in his familiar setting because they are normally outdoor pigs but its cold so they're coming in. He has, however, got his familiar cosy. It is also making finding a new cagemate OR arranging for him to be neutered difficult. There aren't really any rescues in my area and we are snowed in. It's a nightmare and I don't know what to do for him :( even cuddles don't seem to help :(

Poor Nelson. I don't actually know the answer, but my feeling is that he may appreciate being within sight & sound of the other piggies. Just keep an eye on him to make sure he's eating etc and maybe arrange to get him a new pal when you can. :)

Weigh him and monitor, encourage eating. xx

Aww really sorry to hear this! Poor little man :( Weighing is essential as you need to know if he is depressed and refusing to eat. If so syringe feed him just to keep his weight up if you need to syringe water too if he is not drinking. Also keep him warm with a hot water bottle or snuggle safe because you dont realize how much heat they give eachother. Are you getting him another friend? When my little girl Tilly died Lilly was absolutely devastated :( She didnt really pick up until I got her Angel to keep her company now they are inseparable :) Hope you and your little man start to heal soon :( My send you lots of wheeeeeeeeeeeeks! xxxxxxxx
