Goodness, i feel so silly posting this.
Harry has just decided to munch at my seed pearl necklace (which i had on for christmas). He wouldn't let go of it, broke it and we think he has eaten 4 or 5 of them. (seed pearls look like pearly rice cripsies, so he proably thought mummy had a special nugget necklace on for him!mallethead) Had a good listen to his lungs, and don't think he's aspirated any.
any words of advice please. i'm not sure they will survive to reach his poo.
looks like i'm getting myself an expensive present in the newyear - repairing my necklace and buying some more pearls.
Thank you for any words of advice

You may have an expensive vets bill too, I would get advice from a vet as they may block up the system.:( When you say seed pearls are they manmade or just seeds. I would have thought seeds would pass through but not if they are manmade.

Thanks folks,
Harry is doing fine. no signs of obstruction though we are watching him closely. He is still eating like a gannet as usual; not in the slightest bit upset.
Realistically if no symptoms within the next 24h we are well past the danger zone.
i've got the lovely job of looking through his poo later for the pearls, though realistically they have probably dissolved his stomach acid.:)>>>
sharon - fresh water seed pearls are true pearls which rather than being round look like pearly rice crispies. they were a present from my dad 20 years ago and are probably not replacablemallethead

How big are the seed pearls? Would he be able to crunch hhem up? The throat of a guinea pig is so small (matchstick width) so he wouldn't just be able to swallow anything whole.

Hi furryfriends,
we must have been typing at the same time. OH checked his mouth within a few seconds after it happened and all the pearls were gone already and there was no more crunching. he also listened to lung fields which were clear, and no stridor, so aspiration is very unlikely. Size wise the pearls do really look like rice crispies or Wagg sized nuggets - 3-4 mm wide and 4-5mm long at most.
We are over 36h since he did it and he is pooing loads as normal, eating and drinking ok, no abdo distension, and not at all distressed. He is a big pig too at 1.5kg.
any sign of obstruction and he will be at the vet immediately, of course. money or weather no object. after the first few minutes it was obvious it was not stuck in his lungs or gullet, so now need to watch him for any intestinal obstructive symptoms. (this is something hubby and i are familiar with in humans and we have sort a rodentologist's advice for what extra symptoms to watch for in a piggie)
at the moment he is scoffing some lettuce, celariac, and carrot, and is asking for more - as usualmallethead

you can give 1ml of liquid parifin to flush out whats in him x

Claire,
Harry is one of the Becklen 'special pigs' because he a a very serious gut infection when he was only 7 weeks old, from which his siblings died. he has only one hangover from this - he has a very fast gut transit time and poos for britain. he produces about 3 times as much poo as the other boys in the same time. this time i think that will work in his favour:))

thanks for your advice - off to restock the pigs with nuggets. i think even they know christmas is all about eating too much then sleeping it off:(|)
