Ok so I'm all new to Gp's and would just like to make sure I'm not over or under feeding my girls. They are only 9 weeks old. I give them umlimited hay and a bowl each of selective science pellets (around 10 pellets per bowl) I also give them diced celery (minus strings of course) green beans, little gem lettuce or kale and diced bell pepper. So about a handful of fresh veg each. I have a variety of fresh veg at all times so do rotate what they have daily or every other day at least. I do this every morning and every evening and give them healthy treats also here and there. I haven't managed to weigh them yet as need to go and get some scales suitable to weigh them on. They don't look underweight or anything but when doing poo patrol there are quite a lot of poops! My oh thinks I'm over feeding as there is so much, but there are 4 of them! Does this sound about right? :help:

Guinea pigs have to graze on hay all day and night which means they poop non stop. This is not a sign of over feeding. Poops are a sign a guinea pigs gut is moving which is essential. Guinea pigs under six months can have unlimited pellets. It is good you are going to get scales as it is really important to weigh piggies weekly.

Ah that's a relief :) the only reason I put so many pellets per bowl is because I was throwing a lot away. They don't eat all the pellets I put down for them so I'm gueesing they are getting enough of them

It does not sound like your over feeding them! Piggies under 6 months should have unlimited pellets. piggies do poop alot and this is because their gut needs to be moving at all times and that is one reason they need hay. You have to weigh them weekly on the same day for the rest of their life, record your results on a piece of paper. As they are still young they will gain around 40 to 60 grams a week ( at least that is what my young piglet is gaining) Good Luck!
