Hi, Rose seems to be in discomfort. She's been eating fine, hogged her breakfast and elevenses this morning, but now seems to be twitching her back end and doing little uncomfortable squeaks.

She's 5 1/2, and I've not seen her do this before.

I will take her to the vets, but need to scrape together the £100 plus it will cost today, but if anyone has any helpful tips in the meantime I'd appreciate it. She's having a gentle tummy massage at the moment in case it's trapped wind.

I don't like seeing her uncomfortable :(

Is she weeing or pooing while making these squeaks and twitching her back end?

She's just done a few poops. She did a big wee not long ago (on the sofa LOL).

Just waiting for the vet to phone back.

She's not bloated, which is good.

When she weed or pooped did she squeak? :)
Hopefully you can get her to the vet and get her checked over x

I've heard squeeking whilst pooping (not just peeing) can be a sign of bladder crystals, which is worth bringing up if your vet doesnt mention looking for them!

Thanks both :)

It seems to be as she's trying to go that she squeaks.

The vet mentioned cystitis - she has drunk more than normal the past couple of days, but we put that down to the warmer weather.

We have metacam in, so he's going to call back with a doseage, but we can take her in if that doesn't seem to be helping :)

£116 just for the consult! We'll find it if she needs it though :)

cystitis is one of those things that happen nearly every year to some owners. And if it's not caught quickly it can go south really quickly! Guineapigs certainly swing the argument of intelligent design the other way! Though they would be the cutest of all designs if it were true :)

Sadly Rose didn't make it :(

We took her to the vet at 3pm yesterday, as the metacam wasn't helping her at all.

By the time we got there one eye had gone red, and both were a bit bulgy - she had been fine in the morning, shrieking for her breakfast, had her elevenses and a brush and cuddle, and no sign of any problems then. The vet said there were probably several issues, and that he would do scans, xrays etc if we wished, but she would have so completely stressed about that that we felt it kindest to let her go :(

In 5 1/2 years she hadn't had any health issues, but this came on so suddenly :(

For the first time in many many years we are piggy-less :(

Oh gosh! Thats awful! I'm so sorry you've lost her... She lived to a good age and had a good life that's what you've got to remember... Hope you are ok. R.I.P Rose have fun at the bridge

I'm really sorry to hear that Rose didn't make it. You did all you could but as is sadly all too common, she went downhill very fast & didn't make it. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. xx

Thank you both x

Her sister, Martha passed suddenly 6 weeks ago. Came out to eat breakfast quite happily, when we went in a hour later she was dead next to the remains of the breakfast - must have been a heart attack or something - no signs of anything wrong.

They are buried side by side in the garden now.

How lovely that they're side by side. They'll be running around popcorning at the bridge together now!

I am very sorry that you have your second girl so suddenly without warning!

HUGS

Oh how awful. I really am so very sorry you lost your precious girl.

I'm so sorry you have lost both your girls in such a short space of time. RIP Martha & Rose. Run free at the Bridge.

I'm wondering about the names and if you are a Doctor Who fan? :)

So sorry about both your girls :(

Hope you are ok xx

Yes, they were named after Dr Who assistants :) We had Nyssa and Tegan in the 80s LOL!

We thought Rose would go on for ages - she was fine without Martha, and had moved into the living room for company, and was popcorning around and eating for England.

How sad for you, but it sounds like she had a happy life while she was with you. Its a shame they cant tell us whats wrong with them
rather than hiding it till its too late.
