Hi.As some of you know,I rescued a piggy a few months back.He is aproximately 10-12 months old.I am looking to get a mate for him,but after joining this forum and getting some great advice,I realised it was not good to just buy a new piggy and automaticaly expect them to get on.Now I have found a local rescue in my area, the lady has sent me an email to say she currently has 2 Boars in at the moment, one is 12 months and the other is 2 yrs.She does not do Boar dating but has said I am welcome to take George along to see if he gets on with either of the Boars she has.Now my worry is,I will take George there and he will get on with one of them and we take one home...then they turn out to not get on once I have them at home.Is there a set time for them to "like" or"not like" one another?or would they just get on straight away if they were going to at all?All hekp greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Bev

Sorry you've not had a response yet, a lot of rescues offer ongoing support so its worth checking what their policy is if they fell out in future. I.E would you be able to take the piggy back and try another one? The piggies you mention should have been through the hormone stages already so it seems a pairing is more likely to last as one of the problems with boars is them having the hormonal stage and falling out because of it. Also making sure you have the biggest cage possible is good as boars need a lot of space and this will also help them to carry on getting along.

I can't say I'm all that knowledgable on bonding two boars as I've never done it so hopefully someone else will be along shortly and be able to give some more information

Thank you for your message.Much appreciated :)
We have a large indoor cage now, plus a large outdoor type hutch in our conservatory. So if the piggys don't get on at least we now have seperate cages.I am going to look at the 2 Boars on Friday and take our piggy with us :) I am all excited!hehe....another extra xmas prezzie for our 4 year old son too :)
Thanks again.

the problem with boars is they can get on ... and then suddenly fall out!this happened to me,it is the risk you take, although it is best to try to introduce them on neutral ground, so not in the hutch of the one in rescue, but i have another pair of boars who are inseperable (hope i have nt just jinxed that!)
