Hello all,
As you may know I have a little 7 week old sow called Daisy, I left her on Friday with my mum, so I could go to my boyfriends for the weekend.
On the Saturday I got a call from the lady who gave me Daisy saying she had a teddy sow that I could try bonding with Daisy, I thought it was a brilliant idea so we arranged to meet tonight when i got back.
Her husband arrived and handed me a gorgeous little teddy guinea pig, he explained that since the day she was born she had a weird eye, it had white 'cheese' just a little bit that you can see when you pull down her eye lid, to me it looks like the fur of her eyelid is touching her eye and causing irritation, do you think so too? (will post pictures of the eye in a min)...

Secondly, When I arrived home with the new piggie tonight, after I had set her up and washed my hands I got out Daisy for a quick cuddle, the noises she makes have always been slightly strange but today I can't tell whether shes grunting or has something wrong with her?
Its strange, i think I can see something in her nose like human Boogeys, its not running or sticky. Could this be the beginnings of a URI? 8...
She's so happy still running, eating, pooping as normal, evebn calling to the new guinea.

Sorry for the essay, but could you please give me some advice on what you think its is and what action (if any) I need to take?

Thanks Guys,
Jess.

Hi Jess,
Usually sticky/crusty/runny eyes can be associated with a URI so would definitely get her checked by your vet asap.
Assume it wasn't a rescue you had her from as she would have been health checked prior rehoming. Better to be safe than sorry :)

It does sound like the start of a URI so getting her checked out is the best idea. Also sounds like an entropian with the eye. This can be corrected surgically if causing a lot of problems. Let us know how you get on.

xx.

I agree - get both these piggies to a vet quickly. A URI in a younster is serious and will need quick treament. A vet's opinion on the eye is needed to determine whether it is something that can be treated. To have entropion (if this is what it turns out to be) is something that the vast majority of affected babies grow out of in the first week after birth.
