i think Joeys depressed :( i noticed yesturday he was sitting in the corner of his cage he hadnt touched his food or Hay and wasnt squeaking like he normally does :( i took him to the vets and they couldnt find anything wrong with him they said he looked like a little happy healthy Guinea Pig :-\ but today hes just the same sitting in teh corner of his cage food still hasnt been touched but i 'think' hes had a little nibble of his hay. its really scarey because this is what happened to one of my bridge Guineas after his friend died :'(

Oh dear, I'm really sorry to hear about your sad piggie. Is Joey on his own? Maybe he's missing the company of another piggie?

i think he's probably lonely, have you got a stufed teddy you could put in with him, or give him more attention? maybe take him out whilst your on the computer and sit him on your lap with some food it might tempt him a bit more..if he's really pining it might be good to get him a new friend?

Oh yes, I had a lone pig for a while and he loved cuddling up to a little teddy. Every few days he'd be kicked out of my piggie's wee house and that was my cue to get the teddy put in the washing machine!

awwww I would never have thought of getting a teddy...hmmm off to raid my daughter's room to see what I can find :D

just make sure its not filled with those little beans, mine like to chew on ted sometimes so make sure he cant swallow anything from him lol

thanks for your replies. i will follow your suggestionin trying him with a teddy bear. i am getting him a friend although I'm having to wait as I'm looking for a baby Guinea to bond with him as hes an adult and will most deffinate fight with another adult boar and i refuse to get him neutered. a rescue near me took in some pregnant sows I'm hoping to get one of the babies once their born and old enough to leave their mum so its just about waiting and trying to cheer Joey up in teh mean time if all fails i may have to result in a petshop piggy :-\ :( which I'm trying to avoid if at all possible

Maybe if you try the teddy and lots of extra cuddles? When mine was on his own he did seem to get depressed for a little bit, it lasted a few days but after some extra attention was back to his normal self. It would be great to get a baby, I wish you lots of luck!

i tried the teddy i even put 2 in his cage but he just ignored them and stayed in his corner without touching his food although he has been drinking. so while i was at teh petshop today buying a few bits and pieces for the rabbits i had a little peek at the Guinea pigs and their was this one Guinea by himself and he looked up at me from his pen :smitten: so i decided that since Joey was depressed and i was looking for a new Guinea pig anyway i would get him. i have put him and Joey together their was a little scuffle not bad just a few hissing noises then Joey gave up and they cuddled together in Joeys little hide box.

I do hope this will cheer Joey up.If he is not eating you need to hand feed him slithers of veg,and syringe feed him.Has he lost any weight/.?.Piggies are grazers and even a few hours without food can damage the digestive system.Make sure also that he is getting plenty of fluids.
