If you start your own thread and give brief history of the symptoms etc we can help. It is easier to keep everyone's health issues separate so things don't get confused.

think my piggy has mites. but he was treated tuesday had a bath in johnsons mite lice a dn flea shamppo then spot on 25 drops behind the ear like the packet said as it treated to guinea pigs I'm hoping it goes for sunday as showing him. xx also how do you upload pictures?x

yes, definitely a vet check needed :)
ive spoke to my friend who has had guinea pigs all her life and she said that i need to treat him with spot on i have done that! and well before i bathed him in johnsons shampoo mite lice and flea shampoo. and then blow dried him so he was nice and dry and then treated him and seperated him from his hutch mate as he has them to ive both treated them and seperted them. and getting good getting better my friend said try and brush him alot more and brush them out. so its better not as bad its alot better now thankyou!:) x

I would get him checked by a vet as you are treating on spec and it may not even be mites, it could just be dry skin or even fungal. Does he have any hair coming out when you tug it gently? are there any bald patches? What Spot on product did you use?

i'd still recommend vet treatment to be honest. some spot on types are not recommended. only ivermectin is and you can buy it but it's still recommended the vet treat as sometimes they feel injecting it would be better and will let you know how many applications are needed. hopefully if you used ivermectin, you left time between bathing as usually you have to wait 48hrs.

there is no need to separate piggies as they will have already been exposed to the mites and if they have a healthy immune system, will not 'catch them' from the other. but sometimes treating both is the right thing. but only the vet will know for sure what is best.

it's one of those things that i wouldn't advise trying to treat yourself really as things quickly spiral. :)

Spot on doesn't always clear it up, plus flaky skin is not always mites. Bathing will get rid of the flakes but not necessarily the problem (it may help against external parasites though, such as 'running lice' that can harmlessly live on the fur. The vet diagnosis for mites is generally low in cost (as vets fees go) and being sure of the correct treatment will help in the long-run. I have been there with home-treatment and all it did was prolong the problem.
Another thing to note with mite treatment, if it turns out that mites are the problem, is that is can appear to clear up and then the next round of mite eggs hatch and it all starts again. Spot on can cause mites to become resistant in much the same way as headlice are becoming resistant to chemicals that used to kill them. Ideally your piggy would have a round of injections, properly and precisely dosed and properly spaced apart to effectively kill the current mites, and the mites that hatch after the treatment.

Keep an eye on how much he scratches too.

He is a very handsome boy. Good luck in the show.
