Hi I need some advice please. Whilst checking on my boys I noticed that one of them has a small scab under his nose. It looks like it’s been covered by his hair. I have added some pictures, sorry they aren’t very clear (he wasn’t keen on having his picture taken!)

Should I be worried or could it just be the hair?
Thanks

Hello and welcome. Please see a vet for a proper diagnoses as it could be fungal or ringworm. Ringworm can spread to other animals and humans so you need to wash your hands throughly.

Fungal and ringworm isn't dangerous but only a vet can properly diagnose and prescribe the correct treatment as of course, it may be something else

Does he get on okay with his cagemate?

I ask because it look very much like a bite wound that one of my passed pigs had. It happened during a bonding attempt and I completely missed it as he was a black pig. A few days later I felt it on his face and and then the scab came off and he had an infection.

A trip to the vets will determine what it is for you. He'll either get some fungal medication or some antibiotics.

Hi!

It can be from a minor bite wound or the onset of ringworm; at this stage it is very difficult to tell. Please see a vet. if it is ringworm, it should start to spread further with every passing day. See a vet over the next few days during regular opening hours.

They get on ok 90% of the time, his brother is more dominant and they have the odd chattering of teeth and chasing so it’s possible it could be from him (it’s usually over as soon as it started). I didn’t notice it yesterday.

As I’ve said in another reply the boys have the occasional scrap so it could be from him. I’ve just been out to check on him and it looks like his nose is slightly runny, is this another side effect of ringworm? Or could it possibly be dried hair underneath his nose from the running? (I hope that makes sense!)?

(Sorry another question) I’ve also noticed he is scratching all the time, I’ve put off giving him a bath due to the cold weather and they are both outside piggies. Could that also have something to do with it?
Thanks

It could be dried sneeze. Difficult to tell.
If it is fungal, you'd surely know in a day or two because the area around it will be quickly affected. ;)

If I were you, I'd wait a day or two and see how it goes.

Ahh I’ve just been to the vet....

It was a scab as she pulled it off....She didn’t think it was ringworm as there wasn’t any hair loss etc just the scab under his nose. She’s given me something to put on it twice a day to prevent any further infection, so not a wasted journey and both boys had an all over health check.

Thank you all for your advice :)
