I don’t know if this is the right place to post this.
**Sorry graphic pictures**
I’ve been away for the night and just come home so the piggies had to stay in for the day yesterday. I’ve just put them into the runs and when I picked up one of my boars his penis is like this.. what should I do? He doesn’t seem to be able to put it ‘away’. He’s eating/drinking/walking fine

Yes I will. I have just cleaned it to make sure there wasn’t any hair stuck and it did start to go back in a little

So... we’ve just got back from the vets and what a waste of time! She didn’t know what she was talking about. When I showed her she started to pull the prongs(? Is that what they’re called?) out! I quickly told her that they’re attached. Then she looked at the other male to see ‘what it should look like’. After she started to squeeze his bladder to make him wee. Then when the trauma was over she ‘gave him a shot of anti inflammatory’:doh::hb:

Oh gosh that is definitely a vet who doesn't know piggies. Have you tried our vet locator in the top bar to see if there is anyone more knowledgable close to you?

I wasn’t happy when I left them, she wants me to take him back to her tomorrow but I don’t think I can, I felt like I had let him down by letting her look at him. Oh no I haven’t, I’ll have a look at that now.

I don’t think he’s in any pain. He’s definitely not acting like he is. But is there anything I can do to ease it if he is? They’re on shavings and hay in an outdoor hutch. Could I maybe put fleece in there while it’s like this?

The only thing that would alleviate any pain (if there is pain which is hard to determine in prey animals like guinea pigs) is to give pain relief which is only available on prescription so that takes you back to square one with needing a knowledgeable vet (or at least semi knowledgeable).

I have no idea on the size of Gloucestershire but this vet is on our locator and might be worth contacting:
Vale Vet Referals
Rachael Mowbury
The Animal Hospital
Dursley
Gloucestershire
GL11 6AJ
01453547934

My Donald is a bit like this, was left that way post neutering. He had been fully vet checked before being rehomed to me and its not caused him any problems other than making sure to keep him nice and clean (oh and it causes him to wee down one leg in particular)

I saw that one when I had a look earlier, they’re 25ish minutes away from me. I’m going to call them in the morning. Has Donald stayed that way? I’m happy to keep him clean I just don’t want him to be in pain. It’s just strange that it’s come on or rather ‘out’ without any warning. Thank you for your help :)

My old guinea pig snowball had a cauliflower willy. He lived with it for a number of years. It was the days before fleece and puppy pads. So I kept him on pampers bed mats (essentially puppy pads) and made sure he was clean. He had the prongs sticking out a bit too. So sorry the vet never knew what was wrong.

Yea the rescue warned me that he was like it and would remain like it. Donald has to have bum baths every know and then but it's not caused him any specific problems and he certainly rumbles at the ladies like there's nothing wrong down there :))

I don’t know where in Gloucestershire you are but I use Drove Vets who are based in Swindon
They have a wonderful hospital in Swindon and some piggy savvy vets.
I have been very happy with them
Hope everything turns out well.

Thank you all for your replies. When I checked him this morning it’s still the same. With one prong still sticking out, not as much when I first found him. He still seems ok but I’m clearly not his favourite person at the moment 😂
I’m concerned that the skin is very dry so I will be calling the Vale Vets. Unfortunately @Merab's Slave I think swindon is too far as it’s an hour away

Good news, it seems to have gone back to normal! :yahoo:

I know I’ve said it already but I want to say thank you to everyone for their replies, I really would be lost without the support and advice from everyone on the forum! I don’t have any friends/family interested in the beautiful pigs so it really does mean a lot!
Chloe and the piggies :) xx
