Advice Please

I currently only own one little boy Rupert. Rupert is not nutered. Lately I have been thinking about getting another piggie. My questions is should I get a female or male? or just stick with one?

Rupert should ideally have a friend as piggies are social animals. I personally would try him with a young male before having him neutered as boys can and do live very happily together. How old is Rupert? :)
 
He is only 4 months hes still young himself. I was just worrried about 2 males fighting.

There are no guarantees at any age with boys or girls for that matter tho girls are "supposedly" better. It depends on the individual personalities of the piggies just as not all sows appreciate a boar but many members on here have happy boy pairs :)
 
I introduced two four month old males a few weeks ago. Initially there was lots of chasing and mounting one another, which went on for about half an hour. After that they settled down and are now firm friends. I did worry about putting males of the same age together, but its worked so very well.
 
Are you getting him neutered? If you are then you can wait and get him a female afterwards... If you are not then i agree with whats been said! Male is better otherwise you will be overrun with baby piggies...

My boar is neutered (by previous owner, she had good sense!) as he was living with his mum and sister... he would like some other girlfriends though as they are both not girflriend material!
 
Just an update on a friend for Rupert....I found a women in my town that has to part with her male piggie. So my boyfriend and I decided to bring him in and make him a good home. He is around the same age as Rupert so fingers crossed they will become fast friends.

:) I hope they enjoy each others company. Guineapigs are often hear animals and love to have a friend near by :)
 
Introduce them gradually and on neutral territory. Put in lots of distractions like lush grass, vegs etc. You may need to disguise their own natural smell by bathing them and thoroughly drying them or try a spray of perfume on their fur.

Well the new piggie is here. His name is Timbit. He is a couple months older then Rupert. So far there has been alot of grumbling and sqeeking from both of them. I think Rupert is having a rather rough time trying to show Timbit whose boss because of the size difference but so far so good. I will keep everyone posted on the progess.
 
Good news keep us updated and try and post a pic so we can see what he looks like :)

i introduced a baby to my 5 month old boar, and they get on fine. they have their little scraps but its only when one is in a bad mood - they always miss their partner when you take one out the cage though and go mad looking for them.

Well they are getting better but it was a fight. Rupert has a little skratch by his nose and that would have led me to think that Timbit was going to be more dominent. But when it came time for veggies this afternoon Rupert wouldnt let Timbit come out of his hiddy to eat any. So without Rupert knowing Timbt peeked out and snuck a slice of cucumber. I will continue to keep an eye on them.
 
Yes, keep an eye on them. Give them their own veggies and space for them to sleep separately if needed.

Hopefully things will settle down and they will bond happily.
