Thanks for reading. One of my piggies makes a lot of noise in general (wheeking and talking etc) but I have noticed she also makes a noise when she is going pee or poo, it's not a loud noise but making a noise none the less, I am just concerned this isn't normal and would like some other opinions. She is very vocal in any event. x

sorry i cant help much- are her poos and wees normal? no sign of blood? some one else on here will be able to help you more x ps welcome to the forum x

Hello, Welcome to the forum.

Has she always made this noise? Squeaking when weeing or pooing can be the sign of a urine infection. A trip to the vets may be worthwhile, if it is a UTI it can be treated effectively by antibiotics. It's always good to take a urine sample with you to the vets so they can test it when you are there.

You can get a urine sample by feeding piggie wet veg and things like cucumber and popping her in a clean bowl or big tupperware, wait for nature to take it's course, then suck up the wee with a syringe and put it in a specimen bottle. Keep the sample in the fridge until you are ready to go. The syringe and specimen bottle can be bought from a chemist.

Hope this helps and you piggle feels better soon.

I agree that you need to have her checked by a vet. The most likely reason is urinary tract infection to which guinea pigs are particularly prone to. You will need an antibiotic to treat it, preferably septrin in the UK or bactrim in the US.

Health & Illness

Hi. How old is your GP?. Older GP's Sit allot and as a result can get a sore bum.
Wash his/her bum and dry. Also check to see if your GP is compacted as this will also cause pain. I am no expert but it could be some type of infection a good vet should be able to tell you this, maybe a kidney infection. All the best Rosy, Kris and Family.

Hi i too would go to the vets for your piggie :)
Any wheeks when they're peeing or pooping could mean an infection, this will need medication and don't forget to ask them for some probiotics too :)

Thanks for all your advice everyone. We adopted the piggies from a woman who had mistreated them and we had a big job sorting them out, they were overweight, had blocked bowels from eating straw! and were just not in the best state. We were told they were sisters they aren't as we have since found out and they are older than we were told too so not totally sure how old they are, an estimate is 2 and 3. I will get my little bubba to the vets this afternoon and will let you know what the outcome is. x
