Hi Guys

I'm new to forum but i need some advice on my guinea

i have never had guinea pigs before although i have had quite a few other pets

ive now had my guinea pigs since the 1st october 2012.

Now to my Problem :)

i have two females, which seemed fine for the first two weeks or so, but now the one has change her behaviour, she seemed shy compare to the other but the last week or so i have heard her growling or making a rumbling noise whilst moving her back legs and then touching the rear end of the other with her nose when she moves?

also for a little longer then the above she has been blowing air, mostly when eating. i have reearch this a little and have found two answers :-

one - is a URI, but she seems fine except for the above, i have held her against my ear to listen for any weezing etc to no result .

two - i have read she may have only small piece of hay logde ofter eating

Thanks for reading

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The first thing to do is to sex your pigs - please do not take the word of where you got them from as so many get it wrong, this link should help - if you are unable to sex them with 100% confidence please post again with pics (as in focus, well lit (face their bits towards a window) and as close up as possible (macro/flower symbol setting on camera).

The behaviour is that of a male, but females also behave like this when they are in season, so finding out which sexes you have is very important.

Blowing air? It is not possible to determine what (if anything) is going on with your pig's breathing. If you are at all concerned please see a vet sooner rather than later as URIs can be fatal if not treated quickly. If you would like a recommendation for a vet in your area please give your location.

Hello
We are in Wolverhampton and really recommend wombrook vets in wombourne, they also have a surgery in gornal, which is closer to Tipton. Try to see Rosie as she is the gp expert but bonnie is also very good. Tom is less knowledgable on guineas.
Manor vets on the edgebaston rd also come highly recommended although we have no personal experience.

I can personally NOT recommend st georges
